Load for Rainier 40 S&W 165 FP

I got lucky and found a box of 500 40 cal 165 FP at Cabela's today. I have about 1/2 pound of bullseye and 1 lb of FST. It will be for a 40 S&W.

I am thinking of starting with 4.5 grains of WST or 5 grains of Bullseye. Do these sound like OK starting loads?

I cant wait for the powder famine to end.

Best I can do; if this is a JACKETED 165,alliant manual says 5.8 bulls. max for gdhp.,Hornady book says 4.5-6.0 for a 155 jacketed FP. Hodgon manual says 5.9 max WST for a 135 JHP,4.3 for a 180 GR. If this a Rainer plated 165 FP,using lead data,Lyman says for a175 FP 5 gr bulls. max,6.3 WST.I am currently wrestling data using blue dot for a 165 rainer plated FPP, settled at 8.5, anyone got a max guess? comparing blue dot to AA7 I'd say 10.5. I'm loading to 1.125

With Rainers I would start with mid to high range lead data or starting jacketed data, and work up from there.

I found out the dumb way that max jacketed data and Rainier bullets don't always mix. I was using the 155 gr 40 cal bullets and AutoComp powder. They shot fine out of my FN, but they were too hot for my Glock.

Pick a middle of the road charge from jacketed data for your powder choice.

This is one of my favorites. I would say you are fine with what you are thinking. You have to throttle Raniers down a little from jacketed and I would say you are.
