I'm currently have H4350 powder and Sierra .243 85 grain HPBT bullets.

The Hodgdon data shows an 85 grain Barnes TSX bullet with data using H4350 (col 2.620 starting load 37.3 grains, vel 2972, 49600 psi).

Can you substitute bullets if the weight is the same?

Solid copper TSX bullets run long.

Should be fine to use JHP with TSX data, because it is almost always lower.

This is straight from the Hodgdon site.

Cartridge: 243 Winchester
Load Type: Rifle

Bullet Weight (Gr.) Manufacturer Powder Bullet Diam. C.O.L. Grs. Vel. (ft/s) Pressure Grs. Vel. (ft/s) Pressure
85 GR. BAR TSX Hodgdon H4350 .243" 2.620" 37.3 2972 49,600 PSI 40.5 3141 57,300 PSI

Starting load 37.3 grains
Max load 40.5

243winxb is Hodgdon on the conservative side?

Again, the Barnes TSX Hodgdon used is a solid copper bullet that is both harder and longer then a normal lead core jacketed bullet.

Pressure runs higher with it.
Conversely loads run lower, as I said in post #3.

H4350 is a tiny bit slower than IMR 4350 in burn rate. Like RC said, the all copper bullet produces more pressure, so it uses less powder.

I'm finally getting around to loading these. Should I still be looking for a col of 2.620"?

H4350 powder and Sierra .243 85 grain HPBT bullets.

Lyman #49 just happens to have load data for the Sierra 85 HPBT #1530.

They seated to 2.615".
