I'm wanting to make some reduced recoil 30-06 loads using Hornady 125 grain SST and H4895. I'm shooting for 2700-2850 fps. Anybody have any experience with this combo? I've looked at the Hodgdon site and the reduced load starts way slower but the load data center starts at my peak speed.

Hodgdon youth load with H-4895 & a 125 Nosler shows:
40.5 - 2,615 FPS - 31,200 CUP.

Full power start load shows:
48.0 - 2,977 FPS - 41,400 CUP.

Splitting the difference at about 45.0 should put you where you want to be.

Hornady sells a loaded cartridge version of your desire:

http://www.hornady.com/store/30-06-Springfield-125-gr-SST-CustomLite/

Product family described:

Hornady Custom Lite ammunition provides reduced recoil and muzzle blast from standard cartridges, and puts the fun back into shooting for kids, women, and every shooter looking to keep recoil to a minimum while still enjoying the use of their favorite rifle. Loaded with either the Hornady SST or Interlock RN bullet, Custom Lite ammunition is designed to deliver less felt recoil and a modified trajectory that still provides accurate, deadly, and dependable performance.

Unless you intend to shoot thru a lot of bone, the 125g SST @ 2700 ft/sec muzzle vel would work just fine for whitetail deer up to at least 150 yds.

H4895 is a very flexible powder for reduced loadings.

That's pretty much what I'm trying to duplicate except Taylor the load to my dad's rifle. Plus it's cheaper this way. ;)
