I finally got me Lee Loader last night. I loaded up 5 rounds of .38 special. The load I used was

125 gr Hornady XTP
4.3 grains of Titegroup
CCI small pistol primer
new Winchester brass

I had to scrap the first 2 attempts... first, I had the round completed and realized the primer was not in far enough. Then, I seated the bullet too far on the second one.

The next 5 went off without a hitch! Tonight I am gonna hammer out some more.

My only regret is that I found out that my S&W 642 is supposedly sighted in for 158 gr bullets... after I already bought the 125s. Oh well, I'll load some of those next.

Comparing the rounds I made next to a couple different kinds of expensive factory SD ammo... I can see visiually that my cartridges are much more uniform when it comes to seating depth and crimp.

Thanks for the help THR!

congrats! It's a great feeling, itsn't it? I loaded my first a few months ago and have loaded about 1,500 .45 ACP, 1000 .40s, a couple hundred .30-06 and a few dozen .38 Specials so far.

Congrats on your new addiction. It will tear your wallet apart.
Now you will have all the ammo you need or want :D
Expierementing is half the fun. You never know, You might get awesome results with that load.

Just have fun and be careful.

If you don't already have one, pick up a bullet puller so you can re-seat the bullets without having to disassemble them.
But regardign your new hobby, there is no turning back now, your one of us now.
Congratulations and keep us posted with up dates, as well as, any questions or concerns you might have.
By the way, good call on not trying to re-seat the primers in a loaded round. It probably wouldn't go bang, but the risk far out weighs the benefit.
