Loading Room

Going to build a loading room. l will be using my utility room. lts 19x7' with a door in the middle. Concrete floor. No windows. lts semi/finished inside. Plywood on the walls. Sheetrock on the ceiling. l am going to panel the walls and ceiling w/cedar tongue n groove. Heat/Cool will be from a 110 heat pump wall mounted. For security l will install a metal door/frame unit. A sensor will be tied to the house central alarm unit. Will probably put in a motion sensor too. One unknown is what is inside the walls/ceiling. l found a bit of insulation in one small area. None in others. Only access to the ceiling is to cut a hole and see. l know the ceiling is worth checking and adding insulation. What about the walls?? lt would be a PAIN to pull all that plywood off. They are covered by maybe a hundred small pieces. Could l pump them full of foam? 0r maybe tack 1/2'' foam on before installing cedar ?

Interior or exterior walls? Interior don't have to have insulation unless you need sound deadening. Exterior will depend on your climate. If you have to heat or cool exterior need insulation.

There are blown insulators that can be used to fill the walls. Check with your local building supply.

If this is part of your house, I would also recommend sheet rock on the walls for added fire protection.

It is usually not that hard to pull some siding off the out side and blow some insulation in.

I would recommend putting some ventilation in there though.

Yeah, the thing to do is have it blown in. It will make it much easier to heat and cool.

Sounds like you're gonna have a mighty fine cave.

Blown cellulose insulation can be applied by drilling 3/4 inch holes in the top of each open space between studs and blowing it in the empty wall. This is excellent insulation and does not settle like fiberglass, and has a higher R value. I would absolutely insulate every space that abuts an unheated area as well as the ceiling.
