Looking for recommendation with Unique and True Blue. I can find load data from Western Powders but Alliant data is lame.

In the Speer manuals, with a 230grn FMJ, they went from 6.9grn Unique (#11) to 6.5grn max (#14.) I've loaded that 6.9grn load, if it isn't +P, it's pretty darned close... and QuickLoad tells me it is. I don't see any specific +P data anywhere else in my books.

Western Powders was one of the few manufacturers that provided load data for Berry's bullets, data that included the 45 Auto +P. At the moment, most powder and bullet manufacturers provide no data for Berry's bullets or 45 Auto +P.

Alliant does provide 230 gr. 45 Auto +P data, but not for Berry's bullets; nor for Unique powder. They do have some 230 gr. +P loads using BE-86 and Sport Pistol.

True Blue is one of the best performing full-power 45 ACP +P powders I have tried. Just use the load data in any of the recent Western Powders publications.

If you want to PM your email address, I can send you an older Alliant manuel with more extensive load data than what is currently available.

Edit: Now that I'm back at my house, my notes show 8.4gr of True Blue (+P load data) gives me 900-920 fps with a 230 grain plated bullet and 930-950fps with a coated bullet. I was using my Dan Wesson 1911.

Ken Waters' Petloads lists 45-230gr LRN lists 5.5gr Unique as his second most accurate lat and best at 50 yards. At 7gr Unique, his recorded MV was 959 fps with the highest velocity and heavy leading. I hope this helps.

There is probably no data as plated bullets are not used for +p loads. Goto a fmj, xtp or something else for +p.

Previous Alliant load data shows +P load data for Power Pistol.

45 ACP +P is an accepted SAAMI standard, no one is "playing around" with it.

There’s no data from Alliant for +P loads.
Which of course isn't the point, it's tested data, however "lame" it may be, y'all be careful out there.

That said, the Berrys shoots a lot like a jacketed 230 Gr RN, so I would not be afraid
to use jacketed data and ease up on max +P data looking for recoil and ejection clues,
along with velocity if you have a chrono. Either of the two powders you mention should work.

If using Alliant +P data with BE-86 or Sport Pistol, you're not "playing around." If pushing Unique over published standard pressure data in lieu of +P data, you are.

I'll add this from my last post. From the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook: 45-230 LRN loaded with 5.5gr Unique produces a MV of 660fps and chamber pressure of 10,100 cup and 7.3gr Unique produces 905 fps mv and 16,500cup. A load Ken Waters reports as accurate 10-10.5gr Blue Dot. He said he was getting 862 and 944 fps mv. Lyman's list of tested powders list Blue Dot as producing the highest MV.. 7.5gr Blue Dot produces a 660 fps mv with a chamber pressure of 8600 cup. That's less than Unique. And 10.7gr Blue Dot produces 964fps mv with a chamber pressure of 17,300 cup.
