Lock size matters?

The lock that came on kit would be greatly improved in appearance with a seven day vinegar bath, a good rinse in the ocean and sun drying on the beach for a week :D

wow you just saved my day! as I didn't know they made locks for like my traditions Kentucky rifle in 45 caliber flintlock as I don't like the barrels on any other of the Dixie gun works 45 caliber rifles in flintlock as they have that 1-48 twist and I like a slower twist for rounball use only! so with traditions they at lest make a barrel that has like mine a 1-66 twist for roundball use only as I like shooting roundballs!! so since I have this rifle if I could put a good lock on it then it'll be a excellent rifle for a long time and be much cheaper than some other guns I see outhere! :)

Don't discount a 1:48 for a roundball rifle. I won plenty of turkey shoots with my stock TC Hawken. I'd say 1:48 is right on the faster side for a round ball, sure, but load development is what it's all about with any ML rifle. I have a 1:66 barrel for the same rifle, and it doesn't really start shooting up its potential until I move the charge up to 70 grains or so. The old barrel shoots just as well with 50, and the accuracy doesn't fall off until 85-90 grains. Play with your patch/ball/lube combo a little.

On that DPSkentkit I'd work on the shadowline around the lock and if there's enough wood, put a small beavertail on it too. I did that with the Traditions Trapper I built at TSJC. It was still an ugly gonne, but just not as ugly as would a factory completed one.

I chickened out on carving this one. I did do my due diligence googlez and decided to round the edges and shape the muzzle end of that stock with sandpaper, 220 grit slow rolling. I'm estatic. Also had an issue with the sighting plane that has nearly been polished out with a sypderco fine tri-angle stone mostly freehand.
I shaped with sandpaper, even the fore-end. Now I'm polishing with fine steel wool. Takes a long time, results you don't get any other way. Grain is about halfway up, I'll post a pic soon.

ETA one of the "Glock-Centric" ( video gamer) kids I mentor says my DPSKPFL kit is looking "clutch". He was uninspired when it came out of the box. ;) Best compliment an old man could ever get :D
