Lock time: Striker vs. Hammer

In theory, if not practice the striker may be faster, depending on its travel. As a practical matter I don't think it makes any difference. The rotating hammer is heavier and probably strikes a heavier blow for better ignition.

I think that there are too many variables to make an accurate blanket statement.

With modern firearms I'd reckon that lock times are somewhat academic .... because we will probably be talking in terms of the odd millisecond . no more.

Now flinters?? hah ... different matter!:p

I believe a striker would be a bit faster considering less distance travelled and only one part to move once the sear is released.

With a hammer gun the hammer must travel the a distance to strike the firing pin which must then travel to strike the primer.

Flinters...how about a matchlock for slow! :D
