Just stopped in at Big 5 sporting goods to see if they had any M1 Carbine ammo... stood there at the gun counter for 5 minutes but nobody would come over and help me. So I leaned over the counter to see the sole box of .30 carbine ammo... and then started laughing at the price.

$46.99 for remington 110 grain.

BAAAA HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!

Wiped my eyes and walked to the front door.

Manager says "thanks for coming in."

Yeah... :banghead:

You really should tell them how stupid they are, if not just for personal satisfaction, they have a right to know they are idiots ;).

Gotta be fair...

I'm not a Big5 fan, but we have to be fair. That price is Remington's MSRP for that box of soft point ammo. Even online ammo sources get $39.50 for it.

Now, the thousand dollar price for that carbine is Big5's dream, but they'll get it from someone.

I bought a box of Remington .30 carbine at Wally World today for $26.99 and that choked me. Give them a try.

I don't know about you but I have been keeping my eye on the paper for an M1 Carbine sale. 1000$ don't think so. 500$ sold.

Yeah, I did the same thing with the ammo. So I went to a different store sometime later thinking maybe that store was just stupid. Nope, sure enough 47 bucks for 50 rounds. I now don't even bother going into Big 5.

Well I caved and bought the last three boxes of S&B .30 Carbine ammo at Cabela's yesterday... $19.99/50 but I signed up for their credit card and got $15 off so that brought the cost down to a more reasonable but still painful $.30/rd.

At least the brass is reloadable (as I understand). I don't reload due to large time constraints but I think I'll have start... this is ridiculous...

You can go to almost any gun show and find a used Iver Johnson M1 for a heck of a lot under $1K.
True. You can also get them from CMP for $600, unless the yran out in the last couple weeks. They also sell Aguila ammo that is supposed to be good stuff, but they were out last I checked a couple weeks ago. They may have it again though, worth checking into.

ETA: just checked, they are out of the ammo still. They do have carbines available still. $475 rack grade, variuos makers, to $575 for service grade. Cant beat it. I was VERY happy with the condition of my CMP service grade Saginaw S.G.
