I want to buy a scope for rifle target shooting with
long eye relief and I'm way out of my depth. I have
a 98k and a B-Square sight base mount and Warne
1" rings I want to use.

That puts the front edge of the ring about 4 1/2" from
the aft edge of the forward receiver ring. I figure I need
a good 8 1/2" of eye relief back from the receiver edge.

I looked at the catalogues and the regular suspects seem
to treat the situation with little interest. Few specs and
not much choice. Have any of you folks found a good
solution?

The 98 is a bnf '41 so I'm not going to drill. I've bought the
mount and it seems solid. My old eyes need optics and I
really want to shoot this rifle.

Only one way to go...Leupold Scout Scope.

Fixed 2X, but crystal clear with NO problems with eye relief...which is good anywhere from 3-17".

I found one used or $200.00

I have 7x, and 10x Burris intermediate (not long) eye relief scopes that I got on eBay (I know, I know...eBay is a dirty word). I like the higher powers for target shooting. They are great scopes and offer more power and finer crosshairs than a scout scope. Plus, they were both under $200 and in mint condition.

2nd vote for the Burris. The 2-7x extended eye relief model I've got on my pistol would probably be a good fit for what you're looking for.
