cant say one direction or the other(7mm rm to 300wm), i dont have a 7mm RM. what i have found is the 7mm carrys engery better due to its BC's.

the other thing i woud do is point you to the .308 if you are worried about recoil(mentions of the muzzle brake), i have heard of some ranges actually banning them(havent seen it yet). do you ever shoot with friends? the brake will blast everyone else at the range to an obnixious level(sorry about that but someone at the range i go to had a 308 with a muzzle brake, 25-30ft away and i was hurting)

You'll need to reload if you want match-quality performance outside of .308 and .300WM...or else be prepared to pay up.

The 7RM has always been an interest of mine as it actually provides ballistics superior to .300WM at long range and has plenty of whack on target should you desire to take it hunting. Ask Zak Smith, he has an AI Arctic Warfare chambered in the cartridge.

Shooting my .308 side by side with a buddy shooting a magnum cartridge made the difference in drop readily apparent. Beyond that, I don't see much of a deficiency in the .308.

its not that the 308 is deficient...its just that other (non-magnum) calibers can perform the same long-range mission as the 308 better (ie. less drop/drift/recoil).
