I've been reloading handgun ammo for years, but just got an old Lee 12ga handloader and a big bag of federal 2 3/4" shells with plenty of #0 buck and Win209 primers.
The only powder I currently have is American Select, just wondering if there's a decent load I can do for target and home defense, possibly reduced recoil load, no need for long range on this.
I can't seem to find info for #0 buck loads, but since I have 5lbs, I'd love to be able to use that up..... thanks for the help ;o)

Maybe I'm just confused from the Alliant data..... I found a load, but it just specifies "shot weight; 1 1/8 oz" and doesn't say what size shot? Maybe the weight, not the size is what's critical? Then I'd think I can weigh 1 1/8 oz buck and start there?

What I'm considering so far is the lee dipper 2.5cc ( 18.5 gr Amer Select ) , 10 #0 buck ( 1 1/8th oz )

When loading buckshot in shotgun shells, the recipes are for the number of shot you can stack in the shell. You can't just use any load for what you think is the equivalent weight.

If you're serious about loading shotgun shells, then you need to lay your hands on the Lyman Shotshell Reloading Manual. It has all the information you need.

Shotgun recipes are load specific, unlike metallic loads, where you can swith components around and not have a big change in the results. Shotgun loading is different, and you need to stick to the specific recipes listed in the pressure tested data.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, that what I was looking for....I'm switching back to Unique in 45 colt anyway , I'll give the 9 ball load a try.
