Looking for a 243 semi-automatic rifle

There are few offerings of 243 semi autos. The ones that come to mind are the Remington 742/7400/4 rifles and the AR10 platform. Possibly the Browning BAR but I’m unsure of that chambering.

Okay, thank you
This message is in the wrong sub-forum. I would suggest moving or re-posting it to "Buy, Sell and Trade: Rifles and Shotguns",

I believe the BAR did come in that chambering. Also the Win M100 (no longer made), but that won't be real easy to find.

Do yourself a real favor and avoid those Remington products like the plague!!

Auto deer rifles are really popular here in Florida, especially for those of us that run dogs and truth be told I have YET to see one I'd rely on. Friend had an '06 that he sent back to the factory three time.......the Company at that time outsourced repairs..if you could call 'em that! He never did get that thing to work. Another fellow had a brand spankin ' new .280 that jammed on the very first usage on opening day, cost him a nice 8 point....another in the same club had a really pretty .270 that shucked it's extractor on an otherwise easy shot! Locally referred to as jammatics, and for good cause.

By the way, two of those three fella's mentioned bought Browning BAR's after that...................Truly, you could not GIVE me one of those Remingtons!

I've seen multiple companies offering AR10 uppers that would work with a PSA lower, I helped a friend build a 6.5CM AR10 recently like this and so far everything has run flawlessly, he's using regular 308 mags.

I second that I bought a used Remington 742 .30-06 once and took it back the next day n got my money back. the rifles bolt was stuck in battery with the spent case from the last round I fired in the chamber. They run them deer with dogs on the eastern end of NC but here in the west it's illegal. Fellas I've known to do it seems to like autoloader shotguns for that

I've got to ask why?

None of the semi-auto hunting rifles have proven to be successful. The Browning more so than Remington, but I can't think of a single good reason to choose one over a bolt gun. Compared to a bolt rifle semi's are much more expensive, heavier, less reliable, and less accurate.

There is the ability to throw lead down range faster, which is a plus in a military rifle. But for AIMED repeat fire there is little difference in the speed of repeat shots between a bolt gun and a semi.

If I were going that route, I'd look at something on the AR10 platform. Those are pretty common in 308 and more recently in 6.5CM. It shouldn't be too much trouble to get one in 243. But once again I have to ask why 243? An AR15 in 223/5.56 will do 90% of what a 243 does and if you need anything bigger than 223 I'd go with 6.5CM or 308.
