A Glock 21 would work well for you. Unless you have very large hands you'll want one of the new G21 SF with the reduced grip.
A Glock 21 will last a lifetime for most shooters and unlike most 1911's you will most likely never need the services of a gunsmith to keep it running.
Don't own one myself, but I'd probably go for the CZ-97b.
Ruger P90 (which I do own) shoots pretty well and has a good reputation for reliability and ruggedness. Some think they look a bit blocky, but I have the hogue grips on mine and actually kind of like the way it looks. It's a good bit cheaper than $600, which would leave a some money left over for an extra mag or two and some ammo.
well if $600 is your price range the question I now have for you is... Would you like it new or used???
Used well heck you can find plenty for under 6 but think of it this way, do you really want a weapon that is SOMEONE else's versus a brand new on that is undisputabley yours??? No offense it is your choice and be happy but it's still my question for you
NEW or USED???
I have a few suggestions for nice .45's that might suit you
I agree surjimmy make sure any weapon you buy fits your hand, wouldn't want you to be inaccurate due to the fact that you can't handle the steel you are using.
The FNP-45 features traditional double-action/single-action (DA/SA) operation, a high-capacity polymer frame with interchangeable backstrap inserts, accessory rail and ambidextrous frame-mounted decocking levers and magazine release. The FNH-45's barrel is hammer-forged and the stainless steel slide has a hard, matte black Melonite® finish for added durability. The FNP-45 also offers a loaded chamber indicator on the external extractor. A variety of standard and night sights are available. All FNPs come standard with three magazines and a lockable hard case.
Definitely check out the Glock 21SF. Most complain about Glock 21 big grip, so you'll most likely rather have the SF model. Glocks are cheap to buy ($500), with cheap and plentiful aftermarket and replacement parts; Glocks are reliable for the most part, very durable, and SIMPLE! Many people use Glocks in competitions now!
Ruger P90s are good as stated as are SIG P220s and either can be had for $600 and less. Another choice if you can find one is the S&W 4506. Also can be had for less than $600, got mine for $450
Many good suggestions here, but the XD-45 is the gonna be one of the best options. You got 13+1 and it is gripable to even folks with smaller hands, I have the XD-45 Tactical and love it, it was just under $500 before tax and has had one error what so ever.
