I'm hoping anyone could give me some suggestions on a 9mm. I really wanted to get a .22lr , but it looks kinda hard to just find some ammo. I'm Thinking that if i get a 9mm I will be happy with one of those. I haven't shot in about 7 years, and hope to join a gun club .ect. The only Pistol I have is my 45 ACP "Ruger p97dc" ,and im hoping to shoot something with a little less recoil. The 45 isn't bad , but would like something that has a little easier for recoil. I'm not looking for a carry gun, so it doesn't need to be compact at all. I don't want to spend more then $600 total. $500 would be better, but $600 tops. Thanks for any suggestions.

You really need to go to a range that has rentals and try out some to see what fits you best and you shoot best.

If I personally was looking for a pistol in your price range it would be a used/Certified Pre Owned SIG P226, Walther PPQ/P99 AS, or Beretta 92 in that order but there are a lot of nice pistols in your price range.

Good luck

If I was just going to have one 9mm handgun for range use in that price range it would probably be a Glock 34. You can probably find one in your price range. I really like my Steyrs as well. an M9A1 is a very soft shooting fun gun that can be found in your price range.

Nothing wrong with any of the guns mentioned. For a range gun its really just a matter of what you like.

Beretta 92, S&W 5906, or CZ75. Should be able to get into at least a nice used one for that price range.

Ruger P95DC. I've had one 30 plus years, shot 1000's of rounds, accurate, digests anything, never broke. Hurry, they are discontinued.

Buds has the longslide M&P9's for $479. Add an Apex trigger kit for $93 and you've got a solid platform.

I've got a Sig Mk25, Tanfoglio Witness Match, 92FS, etc....the M&P and CZ 75 are next on my list.

Glock 34, CZ 75, and Sig SP2022 are all in my range gun collection. The CZ is the nicest to shoot, as it really soaks up the recoil. My wife keeps grabbing it when she starts flinching with her M&P 9c - it gets her right back on track.

My vote goes for a Glock 17 or if you can stretch a few bucks more, a Glock 34. IMHO you can never go wrong with the original Tupperware wonder 9.

+1 on this. There are so many reliable 9mms in your price range that, in my opinion, how it feels in your hand is going to be the deciding factor.

There are going to be lots of folks who insist that Glock or CZ or Beretta or Sig etc. are going to be the only answer but the truth is, all of them make great guns. They all make reliable, durable 9mms. They are all going to feel a little different in your hand. My advice is to buy the one that feels the most comfortable in your hands.

I really like the Glock 17L for range fun.

I don't hear many people talk about the 17L, but it really is a great range gun, I love it for bullseye shooting.

And really it is a perfectly good nightstand gun too. I mean, if you're not worried about concealability, why not use a larger gun for HD? Longer sight radius, longer barrel for a little extra oooomph in the velocity department. The mass forward of the trigger gives it mild recoil characteristics.

I really like mine, although my HK P7M8 is my HD handgun just because I've trained with it for over 2 decades now.

If the 17L seems a little much, I'd recommend the G34. I have the G34 and enjoy shooting it too.

I have a CZ 75B, I paid $489.00 for it NIB and IMHO it is the way to go for a good 9mm range gun.

Lots of choices for a 9mm. range gun. CZ 75, Beretta 92, Glock 17, S&W M&P9, Browning Hi-Power, and RIA M1911 are a few that come to mind. If looking used you might want to consider a Third Generation S&W auto.

That's about it. The good news is there are many fine choices. The bad news is we don't know what will fit you well. If you can get your hands on some, and hopefully try the trigger out, we can answer more detailed questions about certain guns.

My two favorite range toys in 9MM are a 1911 and an XDm. I had a Witness Elite Match in .40, and if it had been 9MM, I would still have it. That grip was almost too big for me, but I could live with it for the accuracy and shootability.

Some of the all steel guns listed would be very nice, but if you like Ruger and want another in the collection, the SR9 fits well within your budget. They go for 400-450 around here. Every bit as good as a Glock IMO.

Third Generation S&W auto if you are thinking used. 3906 single stack, heavy as a brick, thin grip, nearly no recoil.

I've always wondered, in a thread like this, how the OP EVER knows more after the thread has died than he did when he started the thread.

You'll always get eleventy-zillion different recommendations. How do you know whose advice to follow?

Having said that, my range pistol is a G17. Also use it suppressed as a nightstand piece. Glocks are reliable, easier to work on than any of the other brands mentioned. It's easy to change the trigger pull by swapping out a $10 part (connector). You'll never need gunsmithing services with a Glock.
