I'm looking for a gallery load for a 44 magnum I was thinking of trying 5 gr of RedDot under a
240 gr copper plated bullet any other suggestion would this be a safe load for a copper plated bullet
thanks

5.8 grs of Red Dot would be the starting load for lead on Alliants website , if looking at the listed 6.5 grs loading.

Your plated may need the extra 8/10 gr. ? My guess.

I load this sort of thing for a lever rather than a revolver, but I have been real happy with 6.7 grains of Trail Boss under a 240 grain cast bullet at around 12 BHN. Cheap to shoot, too.

7.5gr Unique.

You’re welcome!;)
Tests the meaning of "gallery load". Lyman's starting load is 10 grains. My load, which makes the magnum worth shooting but without the punishment of the real thing is 9.5 grains and 240 bullet, 9.5 only a starting load for jacketed. Maybe gallery load means 44 Special in magnum brass.

For true gallery loads I use a .432" ball, rolled in alox, loaded a hair past center and lightly roll crimped, over 3.5 gr. Bullseye. Accurate to 30-40 ft. in my 3, 44 Magnum revolvers (haven't tried any farther, but don't see why it wouldn't work at 20-25 yards)...

I don't care for plated bullets and for light loads cast lead would work just as well...

Yep mdi's definition is what I would call an official gallery load. I have done the same thjing with round balls in 38 SPL cases and 32 long cases with appropriate charges. Like shooting a .22 but POI will be different. Cheap shooting for sure.

I guess I'm just looking for a Light 44 special load in a 44 magnum case I figured reddot would be the powder to use

I was thinking of trail boss too but want to stick with what i have on hand RedDot just came to mind first i also have Blue dot Bullseye Unique Hs6
