Hi all,
I have enough long guns. Well, not enough...ya know ;)
So I am looking for a good auto pistol. Lets say 300-400 bucks, more or less. 9mm, 40 S&W, or .45 ACP preferred. I like the idea of 9mm and .40 because I will be doing a lot of plinking with it and ammo is cheaper. I will also use it as a bedside gun, and when trapsing through the woods. I am hoping to find one that meets these guidelines and is of a size that I can carry concealed as soon as I get my permit (the song 'Anticipation' pops into my head).

I've no preference as far as 1911 vs Plastic Wonderguns go. Shot em all, like em all, and am hoping someone can make the decision a little easier:confused: . Havent shot the SPA XD's, though. Any word on em?

Sorry for rambling and not making sense, I work nights and am up past my bedtime :D

Check out the new CZ RAMI, in either 9 or 40. It costs $415-450, depending on the dealer, is great for the range (very accurate), but small enough for CCW, and is DA/SA plus a safety for "cocked & locked".

For around $320 +/-, the limited edition CZ P-40 might be a great value as well, I'm assuming it will be typical CZ quality, since it's just being released :D

Taurus PT92
Taurus PT100
CZ75
Ruger P89
Ruger P95

These are just a few that should keep you from going above the mid $400's

The local pawn shop has 4 nice PT92's for $275 as we speak.

ill second the Steyr M9 or M40 for the kind of money you are talking about.

The are under 300 ordered from CDNN investments. Im in love with mine, as is everyone else that owns one here.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.
The Steyr looks pretty cool, I will check them out. Arinvolvo, who made the holster for yours?

Also thinking about Rock Island Armory 1911s- they have anything close to what I am looking for?

I say go for the XD9, any of the varients.

There are some really great reviews out right now from people who do know what they are talking about, just type in XD* in the search engine here and you will get many opinions on it.

But the most important thing is that it fits your hand well.

Fortunatly for me, the XD9 sub fits my hand perfectly.

I had Fist make me a holster for my S40, they acidently made me one for the M series, so what stupid mistake did I make? instead of doing the smart thing and just buying a new M series pistol to fill that holster, I sent it back. What kind of stupid is that? I could have had an S40 for carry and an M40 for IDPA in matching holsters. :banghead:

maurice, The holster i carry my Steyr in is made by Galco..There are a few companies that make leather for the steyrs.

Highpowers made by FM in Argentina are being advertised by The Dealer Warehouse starting at $319.
I bought an HP made by FM several years ago and have been very happy with it.
There are still "standard capacity" magazines available for the HP too.

Check out CZs, you won't be disappointed. They're around $350 used, and normal capacity mags are available. Custom grips and holsters are available too (Hakan, and Eric respectively)

p.s. Oh, yeah, here are mine, a CZ75B and a 75BD :)

Fella's;

I believe that the recently release Springfield Armory 1911 mil-spec is showing a retail in the $450 - $475.00 range. That should put the price at around $400.00 in the real world.

The NRA recently did a test on this gun & really liked it. I saw it in the current issue of American Rifleman. Perhaps most importantly, they said it was stone reliable outta the box & fed anything.

Therefore, this gun would seem to qualify if you want to go with a 1911 pattern pistol.
