Yup, indeed you can get any number of cheap .22's. And with most, when you do get one, that's what you have, period. That's what you'll always have & if you grow not to like it, well, buy another one. There is however, one cheap .22 that you can, if you like, do pretty much anything you want to with or to it. You want a WWII German MG42, look alike? Can be done. Tired of that & want a different stock? Dozens to choose from.

You can even (GASP) leave it alone & enjoy it for itself. Contrary to some expectations, that is possible. I even personally know people who have done that. Shocking but true. Snrk! 900F
 
If you need serious accuracy, you can not go wrong with Sako varmint. The next step would be a competition grade anshcutz or similar.
