Anyone have a suggestion for a good pistolsmith specializing in .22 cal weapons used for Bullseye competition? I had what looked like a GREAT lead - a guy in Arizona working under the name Falcon Machine. Their website was exactly what I was looking for but they don't appear to be in business any more (no contact information and the number I did find no longer works). Any suggestions form my S&W model 41? I want a trigger job, shorten the barrel, install Fung grips, Red Dot sight, and maybe a nice finish job.

Thanks!

The work you are describing is pretty standard stuff, especially if you aren't going to remount the front sight after barrel shortening.

The trigger weight is user adjustable.

The grips require no modifiction, but get them ordered. He has quite a lead time.

If your barrel is factory tapped, installing a Weaver #62 mount and UltraDot is user project. Any gunsmith could drill and tap the 4 holes if needed.

Shortening and recrowning the barrel are Gunsmithing 101.

If the local guy doesn't do refinishing, he will have someone already lined up who does.

I'd suggest checking your local Yellow Pages, and get some references from local guns shops.

Good Luck...

Why do all that work to a 41 outa the box?

I know, this isn't what you asked for, but there are other options.

41's are very accurate even in stock form.

For the money you're going to have into that Smith, you can just go buy a Pardini.

On the other hand, I have to agree with Joe. Working on a 41 isn't like asking a local smith to rework your 1911 into a Bullseye gun. It's a 41 for crying out loud. Most of what you've asked for are things that we gun owners should be able to do ourselves. Shortening and crowning the barrel aside. Installing grips, rail, red dot, polishing the trigger/sear and adjusting it should be something you can handle.

Else, if you're full of money, then Clarks Custom Guns is where I would send a pistol that I never wanted to get the same money for down the road.

If you're in the Phoenix area, call Nelson Ford at "The Gunsmith" 602-992-0050. He's on N 32nd Street near Shea. He (like Clark recommended above) is in the American Handgunner magazine list of 100 super-duper gunsmiths. His specialties are M1911s and S&W wheelguns, so it is right up his alley. I've known him for a long time and he keeps my Colts running properly.
