I'm looking for a 2-7 rifle scope that is reasonably priced, for my .22. I would like it either to have fixed parallax at 50 yards, or adjustable parallax so I can set it to 50 yards. And I would like it to be reasonably priced (under $125 or so, less is better.) And ... I do not want Made in China!
I've looked around, but cannot seem to find a scope that meets these requirements. I assume any such reasonably priced scopes would have to be made in the Philippines or S. Korea.
Can anyone make some specific recommendations? (Brand and model.)
Thanks

I've had good luck with the Nikon rimfire scopes, but they are no longer making scopes but do still have there good warranty. You may fine a good deal on one now.

The leuppld would be what I get if you can't find the Nikon discounted.

The weaver were nice but think there all China now?

Thanks, all good points. Guess I will look for used or closeout, since this is going on a plinker.

You really don't want a $125 scope, even on a 22. At least not MSRP. If you can find something discounted great. No reason a big game scope with parallax set on 100-150 yards can't be used on a 22. Parallax is one of those things we worry about way more than the issue justifies. That is the only type of scopes I have on any of my 22's.

And don't limit yourself to a 2-7X scope. You'll find way more options and better prices with a big game scope of 3-9X40, or even 1-4X20.

You may be able to avoid Chinese made, but most of them will be from somewhere in Asia. Lots of good stuff from the Philippines.

Look at used scopes on swfa. Sometimes there are killer deals. Also on Gunbroker, the Gunbusters sellers group 4-6 scopes together and sell them as a lot. Sometimes they have some really nice stuff in the lot, and from what I have seen you can expect to pay new price for 1 scope That is the most expensive and get the rest basically for free. In your case you could likely flip those and get one for little or nothing, or perhaps have some decent used glass sitting around for another gun.

Op,

I know you said that you do NOT want any scope made in China but that is darn near impossible for a new scope in the price range you stated.

With that being said, I have had really good luck with Primary Arms scopes. Yes their lower end scopes are made in China but PA 100% stands by there products and has excellent customer service.

Parallax is kind of subjective at times. A scope with 100 yards parallax might be fine for one shooter using it at 25-50 yards but not for other people. How good or bad your eye sight plays a role. I like having scopes with adjustable parallax on all my rifles. I do have a Nikon 3-9 150 BDC rimfire scope and it is a good scope for plinking. I can tell a difference when shooting at 25 yards and at 100 yards with the 50 yard parallax. Others might not notice any difference at all.

A lot of scopes, even good name brands are being outsourced to China, that's not to say that there's not any good scopes made in China. I have had several good low budget scopes on my 22's that had stayed zeroed for many, many years. Right now, I have a CenterPoint 3-9x40 adjustable parallax scope on my Marlin 60 and it's more accurate than I can be and it has taken some pretty good knocks to it. Another good under $100 scope would be the UTG Bugbuster 3-9X32 compact scope. I currently have that mounted on my AR and has held up great.

So true. And Bug busters and other UTG are "Air Gun Rated". Able to handle the double recoil that comes from Airguns.

Specifically springers ruin scopes.....pneumatics are the same as powder burners
Airgun scopes are always a good place look for .22 optics, most decent airguns scopes are either SF, or AO, down to 10yds or less.
Again tho, if avoiding Chinese made, your options are more expensive and limited.

a note on the bugbusters.
The early ones were fantastic for the price, many of the more recent ones have had crooked crosshairs, and slightly poorer glass. I havent had one for a year or two tho, so that may have changed again for all i know.

Here are a couple of MILDOT scopes from Primary Arms

I have the 4-14 FFP MILDOT scope on several center fire and rimfire rifles. The 4-16 SFP is $160. Main thing I don’t care for is the turrets are MOA. The 4-14 FFP has MIL turrets which match the MILDOT reticle better. It costs $230.

Which ever brand you choose, you will get a better quality scope if you up your budget to $250. I also completely understand if you have to stay at your $125 budget. I do know that the UTG bugbuster seems well liked by the guys over at RimfireCentral

If Bushnell runs more rebates on their Nitro line, they're around $180 right now some places. I got one back in March and combined a Natchez discount with a rebate that took it down to around $115. They're from South Korea and have adjustable parallax. It's heavier than alot of other options. If you don't need the parallax adjustment, watch Redfield Revolutions on eBay. They often sell in the $110-130 range used and sometimes even come with rings. I use two of them and they're clear and hold zero.

See if anybody has the Weaver V7. Excellent Japanese made 2.5-7. Amazon has one now.

As others have said, your budget and avoiding Made in China products is pretty mutually exclusive outside of finding a really good used deal.

If the Made in China angle ends up becoming less important, I'd look at a Mueller APV 2-7x32. I have the 4.5-14 version on my Savage Mark II and like it alot.

Thank you all, I will keep looking based on your various recommendations. My preference is a 2x-7x, as I prefer the lower power for the gun I am putting it on.
"Made in China" is off the table for now ... and probably forever going forward, as long as there is an alternative product, even if I have to spend a bit more. My reasons are hopefully obvious ... but that is another subject for another day.

Weaver and Nikon being discontinued really limits the choices within your budget. I have the aforementioned Clearidge Ultra RM which I really like and which is considerably higher than $125.00. Don’t know anything about the Bushnells but in your price range they are the only ones I’d try.

Here's a second nod to Tract scopes. They make a rugged best-rimfire-I've-ever-had for $174 shipped and no tax. It will be a 3-9X. I just put one on my Bergara BXR .22 auto; it was a 4-12X for $194. I've owned and still own several rimfire scopes and it is way better than my others. (BTW, I sold a rifle with a NIkon on it...good riddance.) Too bad you didn't find this note sooner; Tract was offering 10% for a Memorial Day sale. That would have brought your price down to $156.60, no shipping and no tax. You will not find a better rimfire scope even if you spend twice the money.
