Anybody play with Dan Wesson switch bbls?

Do you have to resight the gun everytime you change bbl lengths?

Can you just manicure the front sights so that a 2.5" bbl hits the same as a 4" bbl without adjusting the rear?

How do you guys handle the different bbls lengths...this doesn't just add up to a gun that you can't count on to be sighted in, does it? - JM

Yes you have to re-sight. Even though the shroud will go in the same place, the barrel is what's adjustable. Minor changes in B/C gap will shift the POI. Powder burn ranges would not make much difference, but accuracy at longer ranges will be affected. Not to mention that your bullet velocity will be changing when you go to shorter or longer barrels.

You do have to resight but after a while you learn what the changes are and it's pretty easy. The sights on the newer guns are easier than on the older ones though. Small price to pay.

Just gotta say that every time I shoot one I'm amazed by the accuracy. The DW is simply scary accurate.

I find that the change in impact is small for both of my guns. I think it has to do with the technique you use to switch the barrels. I sort of index mine and try to always seat it the same way. So far it has been pretty reasonable.

They are very good guns and the barrel switch is the best part.

yes you can get them to shoot to the same point of impact (at least close enough not to matter) after changing barrels

it wasn't mine but belonged to a friend who shot the DW in competition. as peter said it has to do with being consistent: screwing the barrel to the same depth, tightening the barrel nut to the same torque and orienting the top of the barrel

he would use the same gun, in different barrel lenghts, for different competitions:
the 6" barrel for the "leg" (stock) match
the 4" barrel for the "service" match
the 2.5" barrel for the "snubby" match
he even used different front blades for shooting different distances (NRA not PPC) we zeroed for 50yds and shaved the front sights to match zero as we moved in

you should be able to do the same with different barrel lenghts...you'll have to adjust windage by shaving the sides

My experience is pretty much the same. I had a 6 inch and an 8 inch barrel. Switching barrels did require resighting or modification of the front sight and angle filing the rear of the shroud for windage adjustments. I did not try the angle filing, but I did cut down the front sight on the 8 inch barrel, made it into a Patridge configuration while I was at it. Alas, I traded my model 15-2 many years ago, regreted it ever since.
