I was told the frame was an essex (spelling, anything close as it was over a slightly statically cell phone)

Colt slide

I forget the barrel maker... supposed to be fairly common in target circles

Heine (spelling) sights and tuning.

Any info at all would be appreciated.

Ok. Seriously. WHAT?

Are thinking of buying a 'custom' 1911? Bad cell phone connection? Hu? I say get it, sounds like a smokin' deal.

No, finding out more about a 1911 in the family. I didn't clearly hear what the maker of the frame was, so I guessed. I am wanting known goods and bads of the frame maker, the frame/slide combination, the sights maker, opinions of heine's work on tuning, etc. everything.
Colt seems to be the gold standard for 1911's (or kimber), but that doesn't mean it will play well with others. From what I can tell, the 1911 is the AR of the pistol world, and some combos work... some don't.

Personally, I'm not a huge 1911 fan, I prefer the BHP, but I know this is in the family and would like to know more about it.

How can it be a smoking deal if there isn't a price on it???

Essex is a low end frame used by some "custom" makers to produce budget "custom" 1911s. If all the holes line up and the rails are straight they are an OK basis for making a gun.

Just because a gun has a few nice parts doesn't mean a thing. Yesterday I ran into a guy at the range who paid more than $1,000 for a "custom" 1911. It was a cheap Olympic frame with a Springer slide and all take-off Government model parts. It was easily worth about $500 to 600.

Shop owner must have seen him coming.

I have a similar feeling about the gun you are talking about. I've rarely seen a quality gun built on an Essex frame. There's one in a shop in town here for $500. Been there for two years. You can't build a high end gun on a low end frame.
