I picked up a rough condition Lee-Enfield that had been partially sporterized with the intent to convert it to 45ACP. I wanted to find some information on markings, but Google and Reddit aren't bending to my will. I keep finding threads of other people asking similar questions about rifles that aren't mine.

What resources do you recommend for SMLE information? Books?

I can’t recall where I’ve looked in the past. I do remember 2-3 decent sites with enough information to figure the markings out on mine. If you have some pictures of the key markings I suspect you could get a quick answer around here.

IMG-8877.jpg The "Nitro proof" and "303" are obvious, but the triangles, little crowns, and such seem mysterious.

IMG-8866_brass.jpg I think the numbers are Arabic, but I would love to know what the other markings say.

I've tried image searches, but the results I've been getting are basically just other pieces of metal with words stamped on them.

The stacked rifles mark is the BSA stamp for commercial rifles. What does it have on the wrist?

You can check out Gunboards.com.

It's a commercial model. The military view mark is normal. The triangle markings may be police markings from any number of countries. What are the wrist markings?

The crown is the British proof mark. G.R. is the royal stamp for King George. The star or asterisk after the III means it underwent modifications at the factory.
