Looking for input on the ruger PC carbine

I bought the Ruger carbine a few years ago. It was accurate and did what it was supposed to do, but overall kind of clunky for me. Eventually I spent the money and went to the Beretta CX4 instead. It is less clunky

In these beholder's eyes, I much prefer the looks of "clunky" than I do the Neos-like "aerodynamic" lines of a Whitney Wolverine wannabe. But I am one who narrowly escaped the meteor that wiped out my kinfolk. :alien:

Why the insults? What the heck did I do to you?

You don't need my "validation" to be happy with what you have. I wasn't offended one whit when you described the firearm most everyone else in this thread likes as being "clunky". Looks and appearances are entirely subjective; this is a forum for expressing opinions. I conceded I'm an old school dinosaur with opinions formed by my own experiences and tastes. I don't care for the looks of high grade Weatherby rifle stocks. I prefer the looks of a 1911 pistol over a typical striker-fired pistol. I prefer the looks of a Merkel double over a Benelli auto. I have never felt insulted just because someone disagreed with the looks or appearances of any of the many firearms I own and treasure. Never; because I know what somebody else loves or hates in terms of looks has nothing to do with my investment in them. Many boats float on the Great Sea of Subjectivity. :)

What I like or dislike in terms of looks or appearances has nothing to do with anything whatsoever except my own, albeit dated, opinion. Sorry you were offended by my opinion. If you were looking to be insulted, you came to the wrong place. That's not what I intended. I will continue to express my opinions but will try to be careful not to comment on anything you like or dislike in the future.

I have one and it is good. Works good, fun to shoot steel targets with it. Reliable. I tried to get a PCC in another brand than Ruger, but - the one I was thinking of biting on didn't offer any open sights, so - for price point and what you get, Ruger won for me again. I put a bi pod on mine, but haven't tried that set up yet, but hopefully this spring we're hitting steel out 100 maybe 200 yards with it. Should be fun.

I'm loving mine. I think I'm around 1k rds so far. I haven't really tried to zero in tight groups yet, didn't really buy it for that. I've been mostly just off hand plinking at milk jugs at 100yds, but I venture to guess if I shot from the bench it's capable of 2moa or so.
My Ar-15 brass catcher works good enough on it once I get it positioned right.

That looks very nice and useful. The Magpul's product overview indicates that there are two storage compartments but they only show a photo of one (the same one you have open in your photo). Where is the second compartment?

"We’ve also integrated two convenient storage locations. The first is a water-resistant grip storage compartment that provides an at-hand location for a small multi-tool, survival equipment, or cleaning equipment. The second is a compartment in the riser section that’s ideal for a single pistol magazine, fitting up to the PMAG 21 GL9."

I have had one for 2 years now. both me and my granddaughter shoot steel challenge with it. we have over 5000 rounds through it . no issue at all. most of those were mu reloads but have shot a bunch of different factory from 115 hp+p to 147 subsonic. all worked fine with the subsonic and no suppressor it needs to be extremely clean and oiled.

The other storage compartment is in the bottom of the pistol grip. I will probably never use it but you could put some stuff in there - cleaning kit, batteries, etc.

Not much else to add other than I have one too. I have a few 1000 rounds through it with no problems. It is my families favorite rifle to plink with and pretty much the only rifle my wife is comfortable using for self-defense. During the first year of the pandemic I moved my family out of the city and up to a house in the desert. I left the PC carbine with my family while I stayed in the city to work during the week. That's how much I trust the rifle. I see no reason to not pick one up.

I’ve had a 9mm PC Charger pistol for over a year now, not a really high round count, but so far zero issues or malfunctions. Runs 147 gr. just fine but at 25+ yards 115 grain groups best. Yes it’s a heavy beast, feels like my PAK-9 AK 9mm pistol, but recoil is surprisingly light for a blowback. And a better than average trigger for a pistol caliber carbine. Not yet had a chance to bench rest it to see how good it is.

and just FYI for anyone who doesn’t have a pistol caliber carbine, don’t expect rifle caliber accuracy. Most handgun ammo isn’t loaded to tolerances as tight as rifle loads, and a 9mm 147 gr. bullet is a rock compared to a 150 gr. 30 caliber rifle bullet in terms of aerodynamics so 25-50 yards is what I consider a practical range.

Been considering one. My old style AR is big and clunky, my M1 carbine is short and old. Still like it, though mags are getting pricey.

I guess that depends on your expectations, mine has been minute of milk jug or better at 100yds.

Not sure if the OP is still interested, but my PC Carbine has become a favorite of mine. I bought mine soon after they first came out. I did notice that the rifle had a lot more kick than I actually expected when I bought it so I added an Odin Works “Atlas 9” compensator. It helped with muzzle rise and recoil. I also installed MCARBO’s recoil buffer pad and some of their pins and a spring retainer. I added a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 red dot on a low QD mount and a cheek pad and I really enjoy shooting it in this configuration.
I have had zero defects or issues with mine. I have fired about 1400-1500 rounds through it. I set it aside during CoVid because the is thing launches brass like crazy. I wasn’t willing to lose brass that I might not replace soon at the ranges I frequent.

does anybody feel theirs is WAY too muzzle heavy? the one I handled felt like it needed a half pound removed from the barrel.

No, I didn’t think mine was too muzzle heavy. It is a bit, but not so much that it bothers me. I had to go get it out and try it. I hadn’t really thought of it as muzzle heavy.

It is less clunky and just as accurate. It was a few hundred more, but over the lifetime that's not much if you intend to keep it and enjoy it. My older eyes dictated a red dot instead of the iron sights. I also added a couple of the buttstock spacers for LOP. The Beretta works great with the red dot. It makes me smile every outing with it.

I don't own one, but if I was to get a "new" 9mm carbine it would be the Beretta.

I also don't own one but it is hard to find a bad word said about the hipoint carbine, I always found that odd as they seem to be the whipping boy for everything. But everyone just loves that "planet of the apes gun".

Me, I have one of the originals, a Marlin camp 9, and really enjoy the little thing. The op said he is in NY and the camp is not scary black plastic, so that is a big plus. I also have a 38/357 lever that is just so much fun as well. Both shoot on par with the photos posted up in this thread.

Back to ruger for a sec, I would love to find one of their over grown 10/22 in 44. I think that would be a great deal of fun.

Just offering out a few other options.
