I just got a Moss 500 but it has a wood stock that I want to replace with something made of tactical black plastic. I am only half joking. I do want a poly stock for it but it doesn't have to be tactical.

I was going to put on a Speedfeed pistol grip and forarm but today I traded my stock 28" vent rib bbl for a 18 1/2" non-rifled slug bbl with sights. This is just going to be a fun gun as I already have a Rem 870 HD with 18" bbl and a Rem 870 Turkey with 28" vent rib for trap. This is just an extra shotgun that I picked up cheap at a pawn store because it had a dog chewed stock and some light rust that came off with WD-40 and brass brush.

What I need is something light weight because the 500 has the alloy receiver and I want to take advantage of the inherent light weight of the gun. Since it has the top tang safety, angled pistol grip stocks are out. I guess I need to go to a conventional style stock but I want black synthetic and I want light weight. I also want something inexpensive since I only have $64 in the gun.:D I don't see the point of spending over $100 on a stock for a $64 gun.

I see the Hogues go for good prices on E-Bay, are the light and of good quality? What other stocks should I be looking at?

Thanks for your help in a trivial matter such as a fun gun.:D

A few years ago I picked up a 500 marinecoat with a factory synthetic stock for a song. It's a great quail gun BTW. Anyway, the factory stock looks good, is sturdy, has a good recoil pad, and seems to me to be light enough. Don't know the prices on 'em but you might want to check it out.

Good luck to you and shoot well.

You should be able to pick-up a std Mossberg synthetic stock for about $45 new or maybe better on e-bay.

I replaced my Persuader (18.5" brl ghost ring sights) stock w/ CopStock recoil absorbing PG just recently but have yet to try it out.

Speed feed!

The have the extra shell storage in some of their offerings. That's my next purchase for my 500 :)

I went with the Hogue Rubber Synthetic Youth stock for my Mossberg. I only took it out to the range once and fired off ~250 rounds without problem. That may not sound impressive, but with the standard synthetic stock, I've only been able to get off around 75 before my shoulder area feels like tenderized meat.

So...I like the reduced felt recoil, the non slip grip, the cushy rubber, and the sharper angle on the grip. Big improvement over the "stock" stock.

I bought mine from Cabelas for ~$40 if I remember correctly.

I've got an "evil" angled pistol grip on my 500A and it works fine. It's part of a pistol grip and folding stock combo. I had to wrap tons of duck tape around the buttplate of the stock to avoid injury, but now it works well. It's hard to describe but when running cocked and locked I simply bring by hand up over the receiver as if carrying a standard stock shotgun. The grip does not get in the way at all, and indeed is a positive aid in carrying the shotgun through some *very* rough country in south-central Alaska. It's my main fishing gun and gets plenty of abuse.
