I am building up an AR in 5.56 and having a hard time finding a barrel to my liking. The things that I'm looking for are:
1) 18" long
2) 1 in 8 twist
3) Govt/medium profile
4) Rifle length gas system
5) Chrome lined, or stainless with a black exterior finish
6) Cold hammer forged
7) Threaded muzzle
8) M4 feed ramps

It seems that every 18" barrel on the market is 1 in 7 twist. Thanks.

Closest I came across in my searches that meet those criteria is the DPMS SPR barrel, however, ALL 18" barrels I looked at use the heavy profile inder the handguards except for one from Criterion that uses a tapered "hybrid" profile under the handguards and it does come in 1-8" but is 4150 ChromeMoly/Chrome lined and not stainless steel. HTH

Other than the black finish I have the same barrel...they were out of the black at the time...I'll look through my receipts and find the company for ya.......

I'm not too worried about it being in stock, I'm building this rifle over time and can put the money towards other things if I have to wait. I'd prefer to stay under $300 for the barrel, but I can cheat on that if I need to.

That Black Hole Weaponry has one, but I'm still interested in what else is out there. I checked all of the sites I could think of.

Try this out:

Yes: 1) 18" long
1:7 2) 1 in 8 twist
Yes: 3) Govt/medium profile
Mid but you can add an adjustable gas block 4) Rifle length gas system
Nitride is better (in my inexperienced but researched opinion) look it up: 5) Chrome lined, or stainless with a black exterior finish
Yes: 6) Cold hammer forged
Yes: 7) Threaded muzzle
Yes: 8) M4 feed ramps

Why the 1:8? I can see the desire for the rifle length and the chrome lined. Though as stated I believe a mid length with good adjustable gas block should accomplish the same feat. This one is on my list: http://slrrifleworks.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=57&product_id=67

I don't want to use an adjustable gas block because I want a gas block with a built-in BUIS and those two features don't seem to overlap.

Try wilson combat i seen one on their web site stainless 1/8 twist not black for 275 or 279

I am building up an AR in 5.56 and having a hard time finding a barrel to my liking. The things that I'm looking for are:
1) 18" long
Wouldn't a 20" work just as well?

2) 1 in 8 twist
There is nothing a 1:8 can do that a 1:7 can't. Don't get too hung up on this

3) Govt/medium profile
if it's about the weight you could also consider a fluted barrel

4) Rifle length gas system
Shouldn't be too hard to find

5) Chrome lined, or stainless with a black exterior finish
Which is it you want? Chrome lined or stainless steel? SS barrels can always be painted

6) Cold hammer forged
CF isn't needed to manufacture a good barrel

7) Threaded muzzle
Easy enough

8) M4 feed ramps
Lothar-Walther barrels have M4 ramps

If you must have all these features in a barrel you could always have one custom made. However uf you're willing to give a little here and there you can easily find a barrel that will work for you
