I am an endowment member of NRA. When I lived in Colorado I thought it would be a good idea to become a member, and eventually Life member of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners. Not sure if they did anything or could've influenced the insane gun laws that went into effect there last year.

I moved to Texas last year and I was looking at the Texas State Rifle Association. Any opinions on this group?

I was also looking at the "other" National groups: National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) and Gun Owners of America (GOA). Any opinions on these?

Thanks!

I was very bothered by how the NRA was okay with limiting free speech back in 2010 as long as they were exempted. I didn't renew my membership because of it.

I love GOA. They are take no prisoners.

Regarding NAGR, here is an informative thread in which their founder joins in:

I am also an Endowment member of the NRA. My opinion of TSRA may be biased as I am also an Endowment member of that organization; but they are a solid plus in the pro-RKBA movement and the legislative updates from being a member are pure gold. Like most large organizations (including the NRA), I don't agree with all that they do; but they come closer to my ideal RKBA organization than even the NRA. They are also a great contributor to the shooting sports in general and politics aside.

I am also a life member of the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF). I have mixed feelings about that. On the litigation front, the work they have done is amazing and they have far eclipsed the NRA in this area. On the downside, they stuck their nose into the legislative arena and supported the recent Schumer-Toomey-Manchin background check bill in the Senate. I think that was a huge error on their part and was extremely irate to see my money being used to promote a message I personally opposed. If it weren't for the NRA, we would have been in real trouble. As a lawyer myself, I think SAF has proven itself more adept in litigation than NRA; but they appear to be way out of their league in lobbying/legislation. I certainly hope they realize that after the 2013 debacle; but they've yet to acknowledge that mistake.
