I've shot the SIG P239 and Kahr K9, and am familiar with the polymer variations of the Kahr.

Can anyone tell me about any other non-polymer frame single stack 9mm pistols that I ought to consider before buying?

The H&K P7. You can still order them from CDNN for about 600 bucks. It is one of the best weapons I have ever fired. I've carried a S&W M&P 9c for the last few years but as soon as I get my holster I'll be carrying the H&K. You have to fire it to truly appreciate it.

You can't go wrong with an S&W 3913. Beautiful guns, all stainless steel with Novak sights, 8 round single stack mag, nice compact size, very accurate, extremely reliable and usually very wallet friendly. My wife and I each have one, we love 'em.

Nero Atrum is right, there are a lot of very nice 1911s available in 9mm. My preference runs to STI, who I think make some of the finest 1911s out there today. I have four STI 1911s, three of which are in 9mm. A 9mm is really nice to shoot in a 1911 frame. The large steel frame absorbs a lot of the recoil, which makes for a very soft shooting 9mm allowing for quicker reacquisition of the target. STI has single stack 9mm available in 3”, 3.4”, 4.15”, 5’, and 6’ models.

You can not go wrong with a Sig P225/P6. Great guns. Reliable and very accurate for their size. The P239 is a great gun, I just think the P225 looks better.

Good luck with your choice.

EDIT:

for pleasure

I guess I'm low buck in my thrills but one of the 9mm Norinco tokarevs are just way more handgun and fun than their low pricing would suggest. Everyone should own at least one tokarev at some point.

I would also suggest a Star super B or BM over a 9mm 1911, Those Spanish handguns just ooze class and are really smooth beauties to shoot

For buisness

H&K p7, the Kahr or Sig or one of those old smith's

Well, the one adopted by the German army and chambered for the 9mm Parabellum is the P-08 called the Luger since it was designed by George Luger.
Today, the cartrdige has the popular name of 9mm Luger because that was about the only pistol available in 9mm Parabellum until after WWII when other
surplus Single stack 9mmx19s started showing up in the USA.

THe LUger aka P-08 though was handfitted in it's parts and in the 1930s the Germans needed a sidearm for the Army that was more easy to build with parts interchangeability. THe Walther P-38 was the first Double Action/Single
Action (DA/SA) adopted by an armed services and it's a single stack as well.

The S&W 3913 was mentioned. It's birth was in the Model 39 built by S&W when the US services considered a 9mm luger sidearm. Colt at the same time created the shorter version of the 1911, the Commander. THe
USA didn't go with the 9mm LUger at that time. S&W and COlt however had
a couple of handguns so they released them to the public in the mid/late '50s.

THe S&W 39 had some reliability issues, but after it was adopted by the Illinois State Police in '68, S&W and the ISP improved it and the 39-2 was born.... the 3913 followed. THe Chiefs Special and Ladysmith aka the CS9
and LS9 were compact versions of the 3913. S&W today offers an
economical version called the 908 in a Matte blued and Stainless version on
an alloy frame.

The Star 9MM B and BM are Spanish made and Star doesn't exist anymore.

Other single stack 9mms of WWII include the Finnish Lahti and the Polish
Vis Radom.

Lots non-polymer single stack 9mms but the S&W 39 and COlt Commander
first used the aircaraft quality aluminum from Alcoa for LW versions.

Latest on the block might be the Sprinfield Armory EMP. a scaled down
to 9mm luger 1911 variant.

Good Lord, I forgot the P225. One of my favorites also! Why the heck don't I have one??????????

The Sig P225 is the USA name for the SIg P6 - they recently hit the market here as German Police surplus. A variation of the several P2nn
that SIg-Sauer created in the 1980s.

Is the p228 a single stack?

Best big 9MM single stack is STI Trojan

Best little 9mm single stack is S&W family of subcompacts..3913,3914,908,CS9,etc.

If you have three grand to blow, try to find a Sig 210, and buy some extra mags for $100 each. More sex appeal than a 1911 9mm but I can't recall ever seeing one at Camp Perry as opposed to LOTS of 1911 platforms in 9mm.

I have a Sig P225 and a Springfield Loaded 1911 in 9mm. Obviously, no gun is worth a d@mn if you can't learn to shoot it for its intended purpose, and I really like shooting both of these a lot. Like all the Sigs I've owned or tried out, the P225 shoots every type of ammo you feed it really well. With the Springer, I don't use the Metalform mags that it came with, I sent the original pair back to Springfield, and I'm in no hurry to get back the replacements since I have three of the Wilson 9mm ETMs which IMHO are the best mags out there. I've stopped using the Winchester Value Pack rounds from wallys in the Springer, I've had a few minor feeding problems with that ammo in the gun, and the ammo is usually out of stock anyway. But I've had no such feeding problems with the 115gr. Remington UMC MC, and it prints groups nicely with that ammo, which is relatively cheap if you buy it by the case from Dick's

BTW, one single stack 9mm that is truly amazing is the S&W 952, not cheap at about $2,300.00 new, but it is one of their Performance Center guns, and you can justify the cost when you see the workmanship in that gun. Great SA trigger in that one

The Walther P5 -- the last (and ultimate) extension of the P.38 and a classic in its own right. The Sig P6 is pretty spiffy as well.

I own a Sig 239 in 9mm (DA/SA trigger), and I really love the gun. It is very well balanced, and about as easy to shoot as a full-sized duty gun. However, it carries nicely due to the slender profile. Mine has been totally reliable through about 5000 rounds. Some days, I have dumped over 300 rounds through without cleaning, and it keeps going. It is a great piece of engineering that I highly recommend.

Can't believe no one's mentioned the Springfield EMP. Everyone seems to rave about them, except about the price tag.

EMP=plastic with no barrel bushing=fail......

These days the best values in a single stack 9mm are the HK P7 PSP $600 and the Sig P6 $300
