A buddy of mine just picked up a Mosin Nagant M44 carbine, but it needs a little help. Is there somewhere that parts are available? The little release that opens the floor plate is very loose, is there a spring that is supposed to be in there to hold it in place? He also wants a cleaning rod, bayonet and parts for it, and a sling. Are these available anywhere?

A good place to start is at Liberty Tree Collectors for most of those parts.
Ebay more likely to find a cleaning rod.

I have a refurbished M44 that has only been shot a few times. I wouldn't part it out though.

I'd bet that something like the floorplate latch is the same part on the M44 as it is on the 91/30 Mosin. Just checked the Numrich Arms web site and they indeed are the same part number for both rifles. Doesn't show a spring for that part although in the exploded view its curved and that could be what provides tension versus a spring. Perhaps that's all you need and the M44 & 91/30 both use the same part.

He may not need a part for the floorplate release.
If you remove the magazine assembly, there is a screw on the back of the magazine just above the top of the trigger guard.
That screw holds the latch. If its loose, tighten it.
