The last place any of you would want to live.
I recently acquired this old revolver from a relative and she has obviously seen better days. Although ugly, her action feels good and the bore miraculously has very little surface rust and no pitting that I can detect. The barrel is all scratched to **** though and zero bluing remains. The gun is also in pretty bad shape

Ideally, I'd like to just stop the rust as I'm not looking to sell it so making it pretty isn't important to me. I actually rather dig the antique patina she is developing and I just want to halt any further corrosion. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

P.S. The metal polish in the background is not for use on the gun.

Welcome to THR, FDR! :)

I have four of those vintage revolvers, 2/ea in .38spl and .32-20.

If that were my pistol, since the bluing is history, I would start by giving it a soak in something like EvapoRust (after, first, cleaning it, o'course) to eliminate any extant rust sites ... and then "oil" it well. ;)

Hey! Thanks for the warm welcome and advice! Glad to hear these guns are still around and kicking. Now to find some non +p ammo for it...

Before doing that, explore Mark Novak's youtube videos about conservation. He's taken guns looking much like yours and boils them in tap water for ~45 minutes. Then removes the crud that results with a soft wire brush.

This video is awesome and I will for sure give this method a shot first. Thanks a bunch for the channel recommendation!
