Fella's;

I'd like to find a Winchester/CZ/Tikka, or possibly something else in .257 Weatherby magnum. The Weatherby Vanguard is not performing at all well and extensive testing has been done. The Weatherby Mk guns are expensive, but possible I suppose, and Remington is a non-starter. What are the possibilities out there at something less than a significant fraction of a third world country's GNP?

I'd not be afraid of looking at a good used gun either. Did the Google search & I have to admit I'm not good at Goo-fu, but didn't find anything except the usual suspects, Howa & Weatherby.

Why is Remington a non-starter?

My first 257 was an Interarms Mark X action and a barrel from PacNor. I still have it and it's still fantastic. If only it were left handed...

The 257 WM is a very high performance round,and can be hard to get much better than hunting accuracy out of most rifles.My experience with Vanguards is that they are good shooting rifles.But that doesn't mean they all shoot good.Yours might need a little tuning,but that would depend on what you expect from it.Tikka,CZ,Winchester are all good rifles,of the 3,I'd probably go for the Winchester.The best shooting 257 I ever saw in action was a M700,but maybe it was just a rare good 700.There are very few rifles that can't benefit from some minor tuning to get the most out of them,and to me,that's just part of the fun.
