Haha, sorry fellas, there's been a lot of 1911 talk going around in this forum, but 1911s are just so amazing, who can't stop talking about them right? :neener: Anywho, I currently own a Taurus PT1911 which is good, but I'm looking for another one now. Going to sell my Cobray M-11/9mm and Springfield XD40 for another 1911... question is, which 1911? And I do not want Kimber or anything around that price range. Thanks you guys, I appreciate all your advice.

I have the 1911 bug also. Getting a Para Ordnance on a trade soon, but that will probably get sold.

Probably will end up with a Rock Island before too long.

hmm... rock island sounds VERY tempting. Only problem is, I got a Taurus, and a part of me feels like the RIA isn't necessarily a step up from the Taurus, so I'm not sure... People here may disagree and say that the RIA is on a higher level. Arrgh! :banghead: So many choices, but not enough money!

What is your price range? I'd say you can't go wrong with a Colt. Colt's website sucks and is not up to date on their products, but if you call and request a catalog, I think you'll be impressed with their current offerings. A Colt XSE or Combat Elite for more modern sights or a series 70 or 1991 for a more traditional 1911.

Take a look at the new Firestorm/American Classic II 1911's. They are getting great reviews. I have an American Classic II, and it is very well made. Can be had for $400-$450

Springfield Mil Spec, or GI. Also STI Spartan. These ones are affordable as well.

I'm guilty.

Taurus PT-1911SS
Colt 1991 .45 NRM
Soon to be Colt Special Combat Govt Hard Chrome.

WHEN DOES IT STOP LOL?

Para is coming out with a new GI model that looks to have just the right enhancements. Should be a winner.

I like my Colt 1911, but drool over Wilson Combat 1911s. Unfortunately, those suckers start at $2,000 - probably not what you meant by "or anything around that price range." But at least we can dream.

STI Spartan, highly regarded as a starter 1911 in the USPSA competition community. Essentially the only inexpensive 1911 sold by a US company.

Step up to something made in the US and original: Colt’s 1911. A model O1991 goes for under $800, model O1970A1CS for under $1000 – I own and can recommend both.

thanks for all the advice fellas. I think I will be making my purchase today depending on what I see. I have a gut feeling though that the winner will be the Colt.

If you won't do the Kimber thing, Colt (if you find a good example) or SA seem to do well for people.

Good luck,and post pictures!
