Looks like DPMS, Bushmaster and TAPCO may be shut down.

UPDATE: a dealer friend of ours received an email today from distribution giant RSR Group notifying them of the following:

Remington Outdoor Company informed RSR at the SHOT Show that they will be focusing on their core hunting and shooting brands – AAC, Barnes, Marlin and Remington. Bushmaster, DPMS, StormLake Barrels and Tapco will no longer be produced, with the exception of the Bushmaster BA50.

Yea, it says DPMS, Bushmaster and Tapco are no longer in business. I went to the websites and it looks like that’s the case.

Remington's new CEO thinks he can save the company by going hard core FUDD. Remington is focused on Remington and Marlin with Barnes and AAC being dragged behind. They basically killed the rest.

That’s too bad...so, not only has Remington managed to screw up their guns and the attitudes of their customers over the past few years now they are dropping brands hoping to focus on “sporting arms”. Just like a bunch of boardroom morons to do something like this rather than fix the problem with their base manufacturing processes.

Remington, Cerberus, you can start by firing the idiots at the top and rehiring some of those folks you fired when you moved all your Manufacturing around. Idiots! Do you think that by dropping your Politically Incorrect lines of products that you are somehow making more friends and building loyalty in the gun community?

I can only hope they can pull off what they were able to pull off making decent Marlins again. Seeing who and how they run their company I won’t hold my breath.

Cerberus is no longer an owner in any way. As of the bankruptcy (March 2018) they where bought out completely. Remington is currently owned by JP Morgan Chase and Franklin Templeton. The current CEO is, I am fairly sure, appointed by the banks not the board. Remington is a one man show.

Bankruptcy general wipes the slate clean on warranties but not always depending on the judge's rulings.
I was kidding, but Tapco did have an excellent warranty program. They replaced a faulty mag by sending me two new ones.

The worst part is they did have good mags, they worked in guns no other aftermarket mags worked in. Sorry to see them go.

I don't see any mention of Storm Lake Barrels after that one blurb. Had no idea they were in the same conglomerate.

I pretty much hate hedge fund managers for what they do to companies. Buying up a lot of companies by issuing debt to buy them in the first place is a recipe for looting the companies of assets before they go under or are a shell of their original self.

The only thing that I had an urge to buy that might be affected was a DPMS GEN II small frame AR10.

Pretty crazy that Bushmaster was thrown in there. I'm sure someone will purchase the name and run with it. The decision was made more than likely to divest themselves of the name that has been caught up in the evil perpetuated by wackos.

a void that will be filled by a more competent company.
Not necessarily so, the major cost on polymer material fabrication is developing the molds and workable designs. That tooling and intellectual property is often lost. Note that if Chase was interested, they could have very well spun of the remnants of Tapco, DPMS, etc. and sold the designs, the ip, and mfg. stuff to someone else to get something back. However, Chase is not 2A friendly and dumping/destroying the stuff would be par for the course for our corporate betters.

someone else will make cheap plastic add-ons to replace the void left by tapco, somebody else will make a new or increase their own ar15 to fill the void dpms left. too many companies like people have over-estimated their value and importance. the market will keep on chugging.

much as I hate to see gun stuff go away, when was the last time anybody bought a a bushmaster? There are cheaper and better guns out there. And lets face it, it's not like we are running short on ar15 brands. DPMS was only interesting because of some of the stuff they were doing with the AR10. I's kind of a shame that some of the legacy names are fading, but I shop with my brain, not my heart, and I haven't bought a remington product in 20 years. Or at least, not a remington product manufactured in the last 40 years.

Hopefully the dpms ar10 business will be rebranded as remington. It does make a bit of sense to consolidate branding. I still don't understand why GMC still exists, and I don't miss Oldsmobile or pontiac.
