Looks like Paul Harrell is coming to the end of his road...

I wonder sometimes, some of these older school guntubers who are obviously into firearms/2A on a more passionate and committed level than others who just video themselves blasting away and being cheeky the ones that study ballistics, reloading, shooting, gunsmithing, gear, etc and have been involved with collecting and shooting firearms for decades, the law of averages would lead one to believe that at least one or two prominent gun tubers has to be a THR member.

Probably lurks in the shadows and doesn't reveal the ID for the sake of anonymity but I wouldn't be surprised if someone such as Paul or Hickok45 was a member here. There are lots of high caliber enthusiasts and supporters on this forum, I'd bet that at least a couple of them are skulking around here all anonymous like. Good idea for a thread, "raise your hand if you're a prominent guntuber". 😆

True experts tend to get annoyed when a bunch of rank amateurs like us start spouting opinions on things it is obvious we have no experience with.

It happens in online forums of all subjects and in everyday encounters.

I personally, don’t like talking about any of the skills and knowledge I possess that make me very good at my day job either in real life or online. Some of those skills and a bit of that knowledge are very pertinent to many discussions here on THR. I just don’t get into them any more than very brief or vague comments. I don’t like talking about my work with anyone except maybe my wife or my current or a future employer. It’s not secret or anything and there are plenty of folks out there who have my occupation, I just don’t like talking about my job, even to other folks in the same career field.

My wife turns her ears off after about 30 seconds of gun talk (most likely everybody else too 😆. So I eventually came here for an outlet and dont pretend to contribute anything worthy of a second look and try not to "advise" anybody about anything, it's just common interest most of us share.

Not an expert and it isn't my profession, if it was I doubt I would be here Because people get burned out on work and alot of what we talk about are just tools of a trade or a means to defend, but for some firearms are the pinnacle of enthusiasm and interest.

Being a prominent youtuber with a firearms channel doesn't make you an expert by any stretch. I was just more or less saying that it would be kinda cool to hear from somebody of that world on a somewhat more private nook of the web, like THR. Kind of like when Sal Glesser (spyderco) randomly chimes in on a thread in Bladeforums or something like that.....

Paul Harrell already covered this.

Those two guys aren't even in the same league. I find it heretical to even mention that other guy's name in comparison to Paul Harrell.
I'm sure you know I wasn't drawing a direct comparison between the two, just pointed to the first couple people that pop into my head when I think of prominent guntube guys. I enjoy both of them, although they definitely part ways in terms of presentation style, topics.....

But the threads on paul, so I won't comment any further on the "other guy", aside from just being generally curious why Hickok ranks so low in your book. They've both done a good job of portraying 2A in a positive light and getting people interested and informed, one is more basic and casual, a lil bit of a cut up and paul is more advanced and serious.

I love how he seemingly never let an "expert" in the comments slip one in on him, if someone challenged him, even on the slightest omission of technical knowledge on a topic presented by paul, most of the times being common sense that should go without saying, you could be sure he would address as many idiotic "corrections" from "experts" as he could while being a master level troll, I think the only reason he didn't call them out by name was not wanting to give them attention. 😉 Paul is a GOAT

I originally stopped on one of his videos because he was wearing a coat just like the one I wear (mine is from L. L. Bean).

...L. L. Bean could sell a lot of this particular coat if they renamed it as such.
THEY STILL CARRY IT!!

I just found one on their site that is extremely close. The only difference is the recoil pad/shoulder patch is the same color as the rest of the jacket. You have to select the tan color, but it's out of stock until June in most sizes. =(

Except for that one time.

Except for that one time.

I wish he wouldn't have paid the "ACKSHULLY" troll people any mind, his presentations were painstakingly thorough and he mentioned "caveats" and "exceptions" to just about every topic just about as frequently as some channels do press checks and annoying safety disclaimers. But I guess it would get frustrating putting that much effort into a presentation and have some lil cheese lick say "ackshully, not true", he acted like it was no skin off his nose but I think it really irked him some days.

I love the video where he points the loaded .22lr tube fed at his hand to eject the cartridges and then cracks off a shot and says, "now you'll notice I just flagged a loaded firearm at my hand when I emptied the tube, there's a concern there...." I know he just wanted people to lose their minds 😆

The good thing is, all his content is on the internet, which should make it accessible forever, hopefully. I've probably not even seen half of his videos and they are nice and long format, so many hours of entertainment to come.

An educated person, knows there is always more to learn. Basically, someone that is an expert, is such because they've learned there is so much more to learn.

I have stated my opinion of most firearms youtubers before. Mostly hot air and BS. Paul was one of the best although he did get a little windy at times but a lot less than most. I enjoyed those two videos. Long intros and the presenter appearing with a big, bushy beard, ball cap with a firearms logo, one size to small t-shirt with said logo, and "tactical" pants causes me to hit the delete button. I learned long ago that you can learn more by listening to people with more experience than you with a certain thing than by running your mouth.

He's informed those that check in that due to his condition he's unable to participate in field presentations but for those lucky enough to live in the PNW or within reasonable driving distance to southern Oregon, he is providing in person instruction (although confined to a seated position), sharing stories and anecdotes that he didn't deem appropriate for YT and mass consumption via video format and the price of admission is $200/per person and they are 4hrs each with like 20+ dates available.

Talk about commitment. There is a "no filming" rule, but I can almost guarantee someone will break this rule and it wouldn't surprise me if he knows that..... some folks had a pretty good idea that paul should record and edit the symposium presentations and copy/sell them because everybody who can attend will be fans and supporters, but will present in smallish numbers, his supporters worldwide who wish they could be there but can't be, will pay a pretty penny to see it second hand. I'd probably be one of those people......

Me I miss his real world ideas. Oh and the "shatner ex pauses". the real world Jeff Cooper of our age.

I tend to think reading and maybe even responding to the comments section of their content is quite enough firearms social media for the average gun toober

We interviewed the legendary Paul Harrell. It was an honor to converse with him! Video soon!

That's cool. I'm pretty excited to see that video and I'm glad it's GT, he's on of the other more tolerable guntubers I watch and he's really quite funny. I bet that video will have HUGE views.

Paul ain't a guntuber. He is an intelligent man who chose to study the topic of guns and gun related stuff and shared his knowledge -- based on experience and reading -- with the world. For free.
His best videos are the ones where he talks a lot. That sets him apart.

Whenever he prefaced something with “and this is the part where I talk a lot” I settled in and eagerly awaited what he had to say.

Never got bored.

He gave an interview yesterday.

I have truly enjoyed his videos over the last few years. It's a shame, but we all have a time to go. Absent a miracle, I wish him a peaceful journey to the other side. That's about the best all of us can all hope for.

Yessir. Even when I disagreed with a minor point here or there...I always respected his opinion because it was founded on HIS learned and earned knowledge and experience.

Garand Thumbs video dropped at lunch time. Wish it was longer, sad to see Paul physical state but he still has his wits. I wish we could have seen the shooting collab with Paul and GT
