My wedge is very loose on my 1849 pocke, and what I mean is with little to no pressure it will fall out. Every once in a while when unholsted it falls out.

Yep, the arbor is too short. If you drive the wedge in tight it will cause the forcing cone to lock up the cylinder. Correcting the arbor length will allow you to drive the wedge in tight as it should be. The best benefit after correction is that you will have the same revolver every time you assemble it!!

Hi Mike I'd like to ask how would one go about doing so (correcting arbor length)? I only ask I have tried shims with no success. The wedge became loose in one shoot then gave up. I cut a penny and (droped it in the arbor hole) it kinda works have not shot it yet to test if it will loosen up or not. I believe the shim gets compressed into the divot in the arbor hole, I am curious did colt in his original have the divot in the arbor holes? I thank you.

Tie265, I use stainless washers in pocket pistols. Yes, the washer will "cone" into the bottom of the drilled hole, but after that, it's not going anywhere. The arbors on the originals were rounded and bottomed out. I use 2 part Gorilla glue to keep them in place. It works fast and is stronger than JB. I dress everything down to give me a .0025"- .003" barrel / cyl clearance (endshake). Makes for a clean, efficient setup!
