Some people just plain need a good old-fashioned killing..........

NEW ORLEANS - The evacuation of the Superdome was suspended Thursday after shots were fired at a military helicopter, an ambulance official overseeing the operation said. No immediate injuries were reported.

"We have suspended operations until they gain control of the Superdome," said Richard Zeuschlag, head of Acadian Ambulance, which was handling the evacuation of sick and injured people from the Superdome.

He said that military would not fly out of the Superdome either because of the gunfire and that the National Guard told him that it was sending 100 military police officers to gain control.

"That's not enough," Zeuschlag. "We need a thousand."

He said that shots were fired at a military helicopter over the Superdome before daybreak.

He also said that during the night, when a medical evacuation helicopter tried to land at a hospital in the outlying town of Kenner, the pilot reported that 100 people were on the landing pad, and some of them had guns.

"He was frightened and would not land," Zeuschlag.

He said medics were calling him and crying for help because they were so scared of people with guns at the Superdome.

where does it say looters specifically shot at the helicopters? it doesn't say that anywhere? or are we assuming it's looters responsible for the gunfire......?

This is being reported on Fox News now.

The world is changing very, very fast right now. I'm a little concerned.

F&#$%'n glad I don't live in New Orleans (or any other metro area!)

He's right. I don't see where it specifically says "looters" were the ones shooting at the chopper in the story.

May simply be common thugs and hoodlums. We shouldn't be so quick to judge the thieves over something like this, simply because they are armed lawbreakers.

So, let me get this straight.

There are people around the Superdome who are so fundamentally evil and stupid that they will take shots at helicopters coming to rescue folks.

But just because they are such lowlife evil thugs, that doesn't prove they are looters.

Yeah, they might be part of the lowlife evil criminal scum who refused to loot.....

Uh, how do you think they probably got their hands on the guns?

No, we can't say for sure that these particular evil, lowlife feral animals who will shoot at rescue choppers would actually stoop to looting,.....I mean just because there has been mass looting going on for a couple of days all around them, we can't say for sure that these particular lowlife feral animal scumballs were actually involved in the mass looting...............

Fox News just ran an eyewitness account of a worthless lowlife feral animal dirtball near the Superdome who did a little dance, yelled "F**k Tha Po-lice" and fired a shot in the air as the chopper approached.

He could be somebody who just likes to dance and shoot in the air while challenging authority. Just because he acts like that doesn't mean he had anything at all to do with the mass looting that's all around him..........

My grandmomma had a little saying about having such an open mind that your brains might fall out, but I won't use it here, no matter how much I may want to...............

I have a solution:

Darnit hillbilly! Why on earth do you insist on mincing your words so much? Please - for once tell us how your really feel. :)

[sarcasm]But, but, they searched all those people goping into the Superdome - don't tell me they missed a little gun or two????[/sarcasm]

What could anyone possibly gain by shooting at a rescue helicopter? Something about this story don't seem right.

You, sir, are making what is often a fatal assumption. You are assuming that human beings will act in a logical manner. Read history. Review the numbers of the slain who made the same assumption.

What could anyone possibly gain by shooting at a rescue helicopter?
What they gain is that they can continue their lawless rampages. If everyone is evacuated from the area, and the NG moves in, they won't be able to continue looting, shooting at people, and who knows what else. The low-lifes doing this want military/police out, and plenty of victims in. A full evacuation takes that away from them.

I'm surprised that it has taken this long for this to happen. Remember these animals have control they don't want their subjects and slaves to leave.
I saw a picture of a Huey.
My suggestion is bring in Appaches and Cobras, first shot and lay down supression fire.

Jus heard on Fox that a NG soldier was hit with a round. They aren't sure if the soldier was in the bird or on the ground.

If you notice something strange that's happening. Compare this to the situtation between Hugo, Andrew. After a day or two, people were out with chainsaws cleaning up things, that's not happening here. I suspect these people have become so accostomed to the government taking care of them there's no personal responsiblity.
Thank you Prez Johnson and the Great Society. Your experiment was so good. :fire:

The situation seems to be going downhill fast in NO. Why isn't the Federal govt putting significant numbers of troops into that city to restore order? Do we not have them available because of Iraq? This is starting to look absurd.

Fox News now reporting that apparently one National Guard soldier was hit by the gunfire.

Rick,
the problem is the Military can't be used for law enforcement. The Posse Commtats (sp?) law. The National Guard under state control. So the feds hands are tied.

Think of what the news media would do if a USA soldier fired and killed a looter? The headlines would sream.

It has been my experience

That all urban areas are a den of "worthless lowlife feral animal dirtball" (thank you, Hillbilly for the great description) just waiting for a chance to put their mentality into actions. Remember the riots in Cleveland, Oh.? L.A.? Chicago? Detriot? Want me to continue? The point is that regardless of race, nationality, etc., living in urban conditions surrounded by the lowest common denominator of humanity does not even allow the existence of morality when control is lost. There are some "people" who cannot survive except in tightly controlled circumstances so they tend to gravitate toward rigid and limited lifestyles and breed like rats. The next generation is shown no other lifestyle and assumes the mantle of false civility waiting for a chance to loose themselves on an unsuspecting and unprepared region. This is not an indictment of any particular race, I have been to 20 something countries and firmly believe that human nature is the same given the set of circumstances slum/ghetto life deals out. There really is no solution. If we coddle the "poor disadvantaged dears" then we encourage the behavior. If we become draconian and eliminate them (think Central America when the Pope visited) it will be only a matter of time until a new crop of bottom feeders will take the place of dishonor at the bottom of societies food chain.

And you guys think California is a bad place to live. My house is sitting high and dry right now thank you very much. And we don't have killer earthquakes on a regular yearly basis. We keep praying for the South.

Fox reported that several Blackhawk Helo's just landed and dropped off troops in battle gear. No word on wether they are NG or AD military.

dpesec - you are quite incorrect in the use of federal armies. There are several famous instances of federal troops being sent to bad situations, or national guardsmen being federalized-which makes them active duty troops, in order to regain control.

The bonus marchers back in the 30's were attacked and run off by then chief of staff Douglas MacArthur-also involved was a little known colonel by the name of George Patton.

President Eisenhower dispatched soldiers from the 101st Airborne division to uphold desegregation of the public schools in Little Rock. Arkansas.

National Guardsmen were federalized in the state of Alabama because George Wallace would not uphold the desegregation laws.

Active duty troopers were also sent in to quell the riots in Detroit in 1967-was either the 82nd or the 101st Airborne-I forget which. You can still see some of the bullet damage-50 caliber size in some of the bricks in Detroit.

I'm sure there are other instances, but it has, can and likely will be done in the future.

http://www.homelandsecurity.org/journal/articles/Trebilcock.htm

This is an excellent article on the application of Posse Comitatus in the US.

Here's the synopsis "The Posse Comitatus Act has traditionally been viewed as a major barrier to the use of U.S. military forces in planning for homeland defense.[1] In fact, many in uniform believe that the act precludes the use of U.S. military assets in domestic security operations in any but the most extraordinary situations. As is often the case, reality bears little resemblance to the myth for homeland defense planners. Through a gradual erosion of the act’s prohibitions over the past 20 years, posse comitatus today is more of a procedural formality than an actual impediment to the use of U.S. military forces in homeland defense."

Now that we're done with this formality - why aren't there massive numbers of boots on the ground restoring order in NO? Bush put his DHS guy (Chertoff) in charge - is he incompetent?

They have got to get the situation in NO under control, there are no excuses. These are Americans who are suffering, and we've got our military deployed protecting people in Iraq. What's wrong with this picture?

1911 guy, race DOES matter because the urban minorities have been told they are oppressed and that the government owes them.

Everything else you say is correct, but when the racists from the NAACP and Jesse Jackass's Rainbow Crap keep repeating the mantra of take whatever you can get because "you owed by the man" then THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS.

Wake up people and get real. Look at the stats. Listen to the rhetoric.

We have a racist underclass condoned by the government and all honest comment is suppressed by mutual consent otherwise known as "Political Correctness".

If you can't see this then keep living in your fantasy world, but get off my case for being honest enough to tell the truth.
