So Lord of War has been one of my favorite movies since I saw it in the theaters a couple years ago. I love it from the beginning scene (ammo factory), to the ending scene when Yuri predicts how he will be released by the ATF agent.

I decided to watch my Lord of War DVD this afternoon since there wasn't anything else going on.

I enjoy the story, the attention to guns and gun runner industry. Anyone else like, or dislike Lord of War?

I liked it, it has that same kind of dark humor as Mark Thomas' "As Used On the Famous Nelson Mandela", which incidentally is worth a read.

I own that one too. Every time I see the scene with the arms bazaar, I think "man how can I get into THAT gun show???" :)

I liked the whole movie. Loved all the footage of the stockpiles of M-16s, and the 40,000 AK-47s in that Russian Armory.

Supposedly loosely based on fact, especially the part where the Cage character gets sprung by the FBI bureaucracy because he can deliver arms for them in a low key way the US Gov't has never been able to achieve. I don't think the major opposition that comes in the form of the self righteous cop is for real. I think at that level the cops are too jaded to be surprised by the system. I also like the way the RAMBO movies were used as illustrations. LOL

Sorry, tried to watch it ... got maybe halfway through and decided I was bored and why was I wasting my time on this. Maybe it isn't the movie, maybe it's me ... but I just didn't get it.
If you PM me I might be willing to part with the DVD......

They had me from the opening lines. The jet black humor and Nicolas Cage's really dang interesting performance make this one of my faves.

O loved the movie. I liked it so much I did a 10 page essay on it. For an english class a few semesters ago.

I love all the dark humor and how. If caught he got sprung by some one from the govt. every time.

This is my problem with movies "loosely" based on fact. So many people take the fiction as fact because the movie is "based" on a "true story."

The movie is VERY loosely based on Russian businessman, ex Soviet Major, Viktor Bout, who sold arms throughout the world following the collapse of the Soviet government.

There is plenty of reading on the Internet on the subject of Mr. Bout. Suffice it to say, that while the U.S. government apparently had marginal dealings with him early in his career (as did many other governments), they were never in a position to arrest him, let alone offer him leniency for his crimes as most of them occurred outside the U.S. and Mr. Bout is not an American citizen or even a frequent visitor. He owned a U.S. incorporated airline in the late 1990s. That company dissolved after 9/11 due to U.S. government pressure on Bout and his associates.

You mean AR15 A2s, as the receivers were stamped when the camera comes in close. One of several goofs.

Another goof is when the Interpol officer finds Cage sitting outside his empty cargo plane and picks up a 7.62 x 39 round and says it belongs to a submachine gun. For one, you can't determine what kind of gun an unfired 7.62 x 39 round comes from, and two, it certainly didn't come from a "submachine gun" since submachine guns fire only pistol ammo, as Mr. Interpol should have known.

You'd probably be interested in reading Merchant of Death ,the book that came out recently about Viktor Bout.

I *really* liked it. Very good story, and interesting camera work. The opening scene was great, and really drew me into it. While there were a few goofs, they were forgivable as I see worse goofs on gun boards.

I suppose there could be an anti message, but there could also be a pro message too. If anything, the movie shows the dark side of capitalism. It also had the same lesson Goodfellas and Scarface had: don't be greedy.

Dumbest movie EVER!

Commando had a much better story line and wittier dialogue. I rank Lord Of War right down there with that Sindbad movie that starred Lou Ferrigno
