Title says it all. I have been removed from my job with U.S. Postal Service because I talked about guns/hunting/shooting.

faen i hælvete! (if you by chance understand norwegian...have mercy on me)

well that just plain sucks man....

Hard to get fired from a goverment job . Especially a unionized job. You defintely need an attorney.

Sorry, but I don't buy it. Having worked for the Federal gov before, and having multiple relatives who work for the post office, it is impossible to get fired without doing something serious stupid...and more than likely doing it repeatedly.

Were you talking about guns/hunting/shooting rather than working?

A lot of great people work for the post office and other gov jobs, but so do the worlds most lazy people. Why would you come here to complain and not provide a single detail?

Details???

Was it talking hunting/guns shooting or something like going to get your gun, hunt down supervisors and shoot letter carriers?

And what's the clerk/letter carrier's union say?

+1 on calling BS. If you really were fired for that reason, with no previous warning/disciplinary action, you could OWN them. No details, no background - something doesn't smell right about this.

Are postal workers unionized? Did you sign an employment contract? Is postal employment "at will" in your state? Do you have a documented history of problems (insubordination, tardiness, incompetence)? In what capacity were guns, hunting, and shooting discussed?

Most importantly: what did your lawyer say?

+2 on calling BS. Sorry, but you need to prove this one before you can expect us to believe it....and not in just one or two sentences.

If you were not a career employee, i.e a "casual", you can be fired for any reason under the sun and not have much recourse. The simple fact is that you need to watch what you are saying and who is around you when you are saying it. That goes for any job in the PC world we are forced to put up with. I talk about guns, self defense and deer hunting all the time, but only to like minded people I know very well.

If you sounding threatening or looked menacing it wouldn't take much to get a casual fired.

RLsnow - det er da vel helt naturlig for en nordlending å benytte seg av slikt språk?

OP: What's really sad is that incidents like these are not surprising in this PC world.. Best of luck in achieving justice.

I'm not going to jump on the troll accuser train without any good reason here.

Wow thats weird. I know that with my Federal job you'll get a one year probation period where they can fire you if you breathe the wrong way. After one year it's harder for them to fire you. After THREE years almost impossible unless you break the law.

+10 On callin B.S Some of our best customers for buyin NFA full auto guns here in AZ are postal workers in fact just sold two .380 UZIs a couple weeks ago to one of em.......

I know scary ain't it?:D

Jeg kan godt nok forsto lige sa meget norsk, men ikke mere. (These days, when I try, I have to make sure the words don't come out in Farsi.)

What EXACTLY did you say?

I'm sensing it must have been less along the lines of: "I absolutely support the responsible ownership and use of firearms for hunting, self-defense, and the general exercise of fundamental human rights." and more along the lines of: "I have lots of guns, I want to bring them to work, anyone who disagrees with me is a fool, and I regard them as dangerous enemies, and will react to defend myself against them accordingly."

The fact that he initial post is VERY sparse on details make me more than a little bit suspicious.Try to narrow down EXACTLY what you said that got them mad.

I'm also retired from the gubment and something stinks with this one. I'd say that unless clarification is given then future credibility is shot in the hinnie for robsc.

I think you should talk to your union rep about this; maybe your state department of labor should be notified. You may want to contact an lawyer who specializes in labor laws. In many states however, employees work under an "at will" law; you can be fired for any reason at any time as long as it's legal.

Unless you talked about using a gun to hunt down and shoot the Postmaster General I don't see you being fired from the post office for just this.

If you really feel you got shafted, you need to call up your union thug-er-representative. Thats what you paid all that protection money-er union dues for.

Sorry, but it doesn't. If you're looking for support or constructive feedback please give us some more details. That is unless you're already in touch with a lawyer who has told you not say anymore about it.

I am sorry to hear about the adverse job action, but the government is gonna do what the government wants to do.

If they don't like you talking about guns, then your best and only reaction is to comply.

Sorry pal, you ain't gonna win sueing the government. They got too many lawyers and even if you could find a lawyer who will take your case, (and you won't find one), nobody has the money to fight the us government.

Forget the commercials. This is reality.

Postal workers have a long, rich hstory of gun ownership. There are different levels of 'talking about guns at work'.

I work at a liberal university and even we don't get fired for having legal, rational discussions about guns at work. I have an NRA mouse pad and calendar in my office. I sometimes wear a Garand or NRA T shirt on casual day. But if I came in and started talking about guns and then went into how much I hated so and so and was gonna take care of him once and for all one of these days, I imagine I'd be cashing my last paycheck in pretty sort order.
