A week or two ago Gov. Kathleen Blanco signed Act 141 (http://www.legis.state.la.us/billdata/streamdocument.asp?did=397919) clarifying self-defense law. (It really isn't very different from current law, but spells out that there is no duty to retreat.)
Now the Governor has signed Act 786 (http://www.legis.state.la.us/billdata/streamdocument.asp?did=402076), providing civil immunity for justifiable self-defense, so that the family of the intruder you shoot breaking into your house can't sue you successfully--and if they try, they have to pay your legal expenses.
Both go into effect sometime in August. Good work from our legislature, assisted by a Governor worried about reelection.
