Maybe this is just a girl thing, but I'll ask anyway.

Do you love guns even if they physically hurt you to shoot them? :uhoh:

I have shot some of dad's that my small hands can't handle very well. They are a hoot to shoot, but I would never get one cause it hurts so much when I do shoot it. I have a friend dad and I just introduced to shooting(will post a thread about her later). She loved it. She started witht the .22 moved up to the 9mm cause she wanted to shoot the Glock, and lastly shot some of dad's .357. She loved all of it, and REALLY liked the .357 even though it hurt her hand. She really liked the Glock too :D . So I was wondering if any of you REALLY enjoy guns even if they hurt your hands(or shoulders or ears or whatever else you hurt)?

Now I have a feeling no one will talk about it cause y'all are all so manly nothing hurts you. :neener: But they you can just say you only buy guns that don't hurt or something like that.

Gus

Yes...

I fell into the big magnum craze and bought a Remington Model 7 chambered in .300 Short Ultra Magnum just for the heck of it. It hurts! Even loading 110gr. bullets in it with a light powder charge hurts. It is ridiculously too large for any game in Texas, yet somehow I can't seem to let it go and get something more practical.

I'm not a recoil junkie, but my wife and I both shoot .45 without any problem. I have shot 45-70 from the trapper carbine and I wouldn't do that again unless I had to and I have shot the .454 Casul from a 6 in. revolver and decided that was fun, once. I suppose it's got to do with all the factors around familiarity and grip ergonomics that make whether it's uncomfortable to shoot a given caliber/gun.

Shoot thats half the fun. Granted, I am a big ol boy (6'2 230) with big hands so I can handle most recoil. However, after firing off a coupld of hundred shots from the Mosin, I can feel it in my shoulder. Good times. :D

[grunt grunt grunt] gimme a case of 12 guage 3 inch magnum slugs and a can of hot turkish 8mm mauser! [/grunt grunt grunt]

Dude,

You have built in recoil absorbtion.

Us slender GQ model types have to use technique.

I put women in the "love 'em even though..." category with the big recoilers.

BLAAAAAAAAMMMMMM!!!!! OW!!! @#$@#.................that was kinda cool.

did one once with a H&R break barrel 12ga with 3 inch mag sabots.

Once was painful but neat

second time was stupid

the third...........didnt happen, gun still sits in my cabnet, i use it for bird hunting.

@#$%$gun clerk that sold it to me when i was less educated : SURE, you CAN shoot slugs through it.

do you realize that a month ago you only had 300 posts? bet a shiny nickel you'll break 1000 before you start working.

Had my second interview on Friday. I was then called and told they were doing a "background check."

If my online inanity doesn't pop-up somehow it looks like I have a job.

Probably can't get online through the work system, so it's laptop and wi-fi for me.

I like the flash and bang, not the pain so much. In this regurd I think my .50 AE Desert Eagle is my most fun gun. It always makes me grin and the heavy weight and wide backstrap means it doesn't hurt to pull the trigger (unless I'm shooting one handed, in which case it stings a bit).

Rifles with muzzle brakes get the bang and flash without the pain as well. I don't like guns that hurt, but I do like the big boomers. So things that reduce the pain are always welcome. I've got a wearable recoil pad for my rifles and I'm looking at some shooting gloves to use with my new .454 Super Redhawk.

If it really is painful, well, time to pass. I want to be able to keep shooting long into the future and don't need any permanent damage.

My personal limit is the .44 magnum, and most of the rounds I shoot are light target loads. I always shoot a few full house factory rounds to verify I'm still able to hit what I aim at, but recoil pain ceased being interesting about the time arthritis showed up.

If I'd known in advance arthritis wouldn't be as much fun as I'd heard, I wouldn't have ordered it.

Recoil Junkey reporting in Gus ... long term ''handcannonitis'' LOL. :p

I am lucky - few if any ''pain'' me - some are just ''less comfortable'' tho I might admit that the daily diet of .454's and 45-70's is necessarily fairly modest - but the grin lasts thru many hours after! :D

LOVE IT - period!! :)

Those who require big loudenboomerblasters are doing it to impress others and are probably covering for other deficiencies IMO. :p

If it hurts I don't do it!

So I was wondering if any of you REALLY enjoy guns even if they hurt your hands(or shoulders or ears or whatever else you hurt)?

I have shot many, many guns in my lifetime that hurt like heck when I shot them for the first time. If it hurt and I could not somehow "fix" it I just won't shoot it any more. More often than not a "fix" can be achieved by varying technique or by putting a better/more effective grip/stock on the gun so that shooting it became a more reasonable experience and fun. Hearing is IMHO an absolutely no compromise situation. I have alwasy worn hearing protection when I shot - period.

In short, if it hurts don't do it  Nothing manly about being hurt in a sport that is supposed to be fun and pleasureable. If it does hurt and someone continues to do it - that borders on stupidity.

I like hard hitting, loud guns that spit fire a dragon would envy... as long as I am just shooting for fun, of course. My brother doesn't like the recoil of his M44 Nagant. I love it! But if someone handed me a six pound .338 Lapua, I'd screw my face up and carefully hand it back. I'm crazy but not stupid.

I put 5 rounds through a .460 Weatherby Magnum once just wearing a T Shirt.

Getting punished was part of the fun. I wasn't flinching much (I was shooting bowling pins offhand at 30 yards with the Express sight).

I don't think I'd really enjoy shooting that beast off a bench though.....

I'm afraid I'm a wuss when it comes to recoil. I can handle 12ga. buckshot and slugs, without pleasure, but that's as high as I want to go in a long gun - certainly, no 3" shells, thank you very much!!! In rifles, I've hunted with a .375 H&H Magnum, and I can handle that, as it's similar to a shotgun in recoil. However, the heavier stuff is a "sour-face, wince, whine" proposition for me.

In handguns, my biggest are two .44 Magnums, and I've chosen the Ruger Redhawk as my platform of choice, as its extra weight helps to dampen recoil. I can manage +P loads like the Garrett Hammerhead, but don't enjoy them. For the rest, I shoot standard loads, and enjoy them.

Of course, for the last year or so, it's all been relative... thanks to a back injury, I've only been allowed to shoot rimfires since February '04! Hopefully, once my next surgery is healed up, I'll be able to get back to the bigger bores.

I have a wide range of long guns

...and the ones that hurt the most, get shot the least...Sold my Mosin M-44 'cause I hadn't shot it in 2 years. In my defense, I dislocated my RT shoulder a coupla years ago...Now pay alot more attention to recoil!

Recoil junkie reporting. I must admit, I love it. Maybe it's the roar, the flames, or just the feeling of POWER :what:
Some of the .44 mags are fun, but I have not been lucky enough to shoot any real Hand cannons, like P95 carry, but I have done some very large bore rifles, and I have a 10 ga that is a hoot with slugs.

I love the bruisers.
