Lovin' My 581

Got to shoot my newly acquired Smith and Wesson 581 today. I originally bought this one just because it was a good deal, and the more I handled the more I liked it, due to the very natural way it points in my hand.

Shot a few 158 gr .38 reloads through it today and managed one sub 1 inch 5 shot group and several groups in the 1-1.5 range. Did not fair quite as well with the .357 loads, but still kept them in the 1.75-2.5 range. With .38s the groups are about an inch low at 25 yds, and dead on with the .357s. I'd say this one is probably a keeper.

Great gun. Fixed sight L-frames don't grow on trees.

Ah, my first S&W revolver. Back when the L frame was so new, that Smith didn't offer them with adjustable sights! This was in 1981 I believe.

Police depts were strictly revolver only in those days, and the L frame was big news!
