I have a standard double-stack AK and just had to get rid of all my magazines because of the NY SAFE act. :fire:

I'm looking for magazines that hold 10 or fewer rounds (preferably steel) that are legal in NY, and can't seem to find them.

Any suggestions (other than moving) would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Try Midway USA

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/11...azine-ak-47-762x39mm-russian-10-round-polymer $10.99

If you are a new customer you can get up to $20 off your first order. (varies with amount spent)

Midway are great to do business with and they have tons of stuff and also have an NRA round up program providing funds for the NRA.
I believe the company itself gave the NRA $1,000,000

PS I feel your pain I am in California and moving is not an option at this time.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I ordered one from Midway, per your post. I'll see how it works. :scrutiny: It is plastic, and has mixed reviews.

These 5 round steel mags are listed quite often on Gun Broker. Keep checking, I picked up three last week for $27.00 shipped. You can also trim the follower on these to make them hold 10 rounds.
Look for these mags. They are floating around, and they are good quality. I picked up two of them for about 20 bucks, including a mag pouch, from a guy a couple years back, and they are very solid. I trimmed the follower on one to hold 10 rds, and both are great mags. I use them hunting (10rd limit in my state for hunting).

My condolences on your state's firearms laws =(

Relics from the mid 90s when Mr. Clinton decided we couldn't have the traditional 30 round mags I have 3.5 steel 5 round mags. No clue where they came from as we sold hundreds of those fun AK rifles back then. I say 3.5 because one has the follower but no spring and God knows where the spring is.

Anyway, since I am a former New Yorker (Brooklyn born and raised) I will offer you a one time good deal of free for the asking. I will never use these things and what the heck, since you have a use for them they are yours for the asking. Drop me a PM if you want them with a mailing address. I don't think I can go to jail for mailing 5 round steel magazines to NY? :)

The dust, dirt and minor surface rust on one of them is also included free of charge and postage is on me.

I have one I won't be using too. I sold my AK years ago. I forgot to give the buyer that small mag. I'm not even sure if it's 5 rounds or 10. I think it's 5. And I'll match the going rate in this thread - free. Just PM me an address. Then hope I can actually find it. :) I'm pretty sure I know where it is.

UPDATE I may have spoke too soon. I looked where I thought it was and it wasn't there. I'll keep looking for it but I just moved recently so it may take me a while. If I don't find it by the end of the weekend I probably won't be able to find it. It's been years since I remember seeing it so who knows. My memory isn't so great it seems.

A good source for AK mags is CDNN. I have a couple of Chinese made 5rd mags that I bought to be legal for hunting. They work OK if left as stock. I did try to convert one to 10rds. It worked pretty well loaded to 9rds but tended to nose dive the first round if loaded to 10rds.

Cheaper than Dirt (I know everyone hates them) often has unusual mags.

you should just post a wtb ad here, when I bought my arsenal it came with one 5rd mag and I just left it in the box till I traded the gun to my brother I imagine there is quite a few here has a couple just laying around. kvar also sells 5rd and 10rd mags but they are currently out of stock.

Perhaps we could get one of the Gun Rights groups to organize a charity drive to collect our unwanted sub-capacity magazines from people in Free states and distribute them to our brothers in the non-Free zones.

I'm sure I'd find some in boxes up in the attic.

Getting Free Mags

Thanks again.

Try K-Var in your search engine. They have mags, believe Bulgarian and they are affiiated some way with Arsenal, Inc. out in Las Vegas. I have ordered from them and they were good.

even if you weld the 5 rd mag into the gun I do not believe the AK with the pistol grip flash hider and bayonet lug is legal and I do not know if any variant of the AK is legal here in NY

Back when I owned a Maadi, I found the 10-round magazines much more handy at the range. Easier over a bench, faster to fill, and so on.

This thread gives me a distinctly warm feeling that expresses the best of THR.
