I went through the search for "inexpensive" scopes and red dots not long ago.
What I found was:
1. Barska - The center 1/3 of the field is focused on the target. The rest is focused at 12 feet.
2. NCStar - Pretty clear field of view. Holds zero well. Getting zeroed is a problem, because the adjustments are marked "1/4" at 100 yds", but might move the crosshairs up to 2". And you never know how far each click will take you. That's the 2-6X compact. The fixed 2.5X and 4X are OK on my SKS and M44.
3. BEC red dot - Too dim to see in daylight. The Battery cap falls off on every shot, killing the dot.
4. ATN Ultra Sight red dot. Works great as long as you don't touch it or move it. Then the reticle disappears and won't come back till you tap the damn thing.
All these companies have guarantees, but shipping and service fees are over half what the scope cost and you never know if they'll tell you it meets their standards and no repair is needed. I'll be talking to them at the SHOT Show!!
The cheapest scope I'll buy now is the Leupold VX-1.
