I'm low on small pistol primers. I've always used CCI in the past but they are
hard to find in the LGS's. My lgs has Winchester or Remington. If you only
had these two to choose from ,which one? Thanks.

Yeah, I never got that about the Remington warning that their 1 1/2 shouldn't be used with 40 S&W. +P 9mm is higher in pressure that the 40.

I have used a ton of Winchester primers for pistol and they work well. I have CCI, Winchester, Wolf, and Federal SP primers on hand right now. I haven't used any of the Wolf primers yet, but all the others work just fine.

I would buy whichever was the cheapest all other things considered.

If they are the same price, it doesn't matter IMO. I have used all brands without switching anything else and can tell no difference.
This is of course with the understanding that some powders require magnum primers and some don't.

I've used Winchester, Remington and Federals more than any others and they're all great. Some don't buy the Federals because of storage issues. They package them in larger boxes (you probably already know that).
I do like the way Winchester packages their primers so that you can flip them over in a tray very easily. On the other hand I hate the way Fed and Rem package them sideways.

But enough of that rant. I don't think one primer is necessarily better than another.

I've used thousands of CCI and Winchester primers. And several hundred Remington and Federal primers. They all worked as advertised. I just get whatever is cheapest and/or available. Other lesser known brands I'd only buy as a last resort.

I have used only one brick of Winchester, but several bricks of Remington. I never have had either brand fail to fire. I would buy whichever is cheapest.

That said, the Remingtons seem to, on occasion, jam up feeding down the track on my Lee Safety Primer Feed. Not so much with the other brands of primers I have used. But mine could be an isolated issue.

I've used thousands of S&B SP primers, seated on the turret and progressive - they just work.

And they're only $20 per k around here :)

Ditto on the S&B for large pistol. They work well and are a good price. Between Winchester and Remington I'd use the cheaper one.

Win. I finally got in cci 5000 spp. from a back order 6+ mo. ago and am happy for 125.00 + a lil tax think it was 134.00 That wont happen for me again as a lgs did me a favor. Reason being I ordered 5000cci lpp. also (BULK). As I do load work-ups I want to stay to the same brand cci. My Win. selection is on empty it will be next I hope. Let me add I load most all pistol.

I have CCI, Win and Wolf. Makes no difference to me. I got a killer deal on Wolf a few years ago, the online company sent me the wrong ones, they were so nice and it was not worth the hassle and expense of trying to pick them up, they just sent me the cases of ones I had ordered.:) (pistol and rifle)

The work just fine, you can feel they are a bit harder when inserting them

I've used thousands of S&B SP primers, seated on the turret and progressive - they just work.

Same for me, about 8K so far, SP + LP combined.
In general I found they were about 15-20fps slower than CCIs in my 9mm loads.
Cabelas had them on sale for $20/k now they are up to $25 I believe.
Cabelas is a bit cheaper on their hazmat charge than most. They usually have discounts if you have not ordered from them before.
(They go by the name on the credit card , not the address, so if you have ordered from them and are married and your wife hasn't ordered from them use her card. :)---Note this could be dangerous)
Cabelas ships powder from one place and primers from another place so you can end up with to hazmats of you order both at the same time unlike some most other places.
Depending on how many you need and how much your LGS wants it might be cheaper to order them.

I had been using CCI SP and LP but $20/K was to good a deal to pass up.

I have also shot about 3K of Tula and they worked fine.
Winchester and Remington were both fine when I couldn't get anything else l but they were higher priced than CCIs.

Given Win and Rem I would go with Win first.

I used CCI until a buddy of mine gave me several thousand Remington. They had been siting in a bag in a garage. I have been using them for years with no problems. I still have about six thousand left.

I started with Winchester which worked great in my 1911. When I added a G-21, I had some FTF. Checked everything and all was in spec. Bought some Federal LP and all was good. I also use Winchester in 9MM and 40S&W with no issues. That said I have a stock of both Winchester SP and LP with the LP going into the 1911. The Federal goes into the Glock G-21 into a separate bag marked as Fed Primers. Other than the G-21 issue I have had no issues with either brand. With the large supply that I have it will be quite a while before I need any new stock of primers.

A primer, is a primer, is a primer. A while back I tried comparing the different manufacturers. Ten identical rounds each of CCI, Winchester, Remington and Federal. I couldn’t tell the difference. The only one I try to avoid is Federal and that’s only because of the bulky packaging.

Just got back from Cabela's. Bought a box of 1000 CCI small pistol primers off the shelf. They had a good stock all sizes.
