In researching loads for the 270 WSM, I've seen that Alliant specifies LR primers, not magnums for their RL19 and RL22. But my Lyman Reloading manual specifies a LR mag primer for its entire list of 270 WSM loads.
I loaded 12 rounds of 66 gr of Reloader 22, Hdy 130 gr JSP using a mag primer and an identical load of 12 except they had a LR primer to see what impact or grouping difference there might be.
Well, at 100 yards, I was surprised to see no real difference between the groups at all. Each group of 3 was MOA. The impact points of groups were similarly within 1.5 MOA. So no significant difference seen.
Now this was a small sample, I only used one type of powder, and only shot out to 100 yards, but has anyone else found another powder that is specified with mag primers in one table and regular primers in another manual or table? Has anyone some experience in doing this out to 200 or 300 yards?
