Lubing Sizing press

Does anyone have input on which press is better? I am looking at the lyman 4500 or the RCBS. Thanks !!

Doubt you would ever notice any difference. Except price.

I've never used Lyman but I have an RCBS rockchucker that has worked perfectly for the past year (just got into it 12-18 months). I've loaded many hundred 44 mag and hundreds of 243, 30-30, 45-70. Lyman may be just as good but I can only say that RCBS has been solid and customer support responsive when I've had questions.

I also doubt you'd ever know the difference other than price. I have 2 of the old Lyman 45's that I like very much. Usually see them at the gun shows for around $15 to $25 bucks.

Which ever one you get, they both take the same dies. From what I've been hearing over on castboolits.com, the RCBS press and dies are better. The Lyman company is somewhat of a has-been, their customer service is almost non-existent. Nothing even close to RCBS,---you say you broke it by your own ignorance? No problemo another one is in the mail, no charge. Lyman's answer would be you pay for the part AND the shipping,IF you could even get anybody on the phone!

Don't forget to look at a Star. I know they cost more, but time may be important to you.

I used a Lyman 450 and it worked fine, but I ended up preferring the Lee system. The lee doesn't require a nose punch, less chance of deformation.

I have a bunch of the Lyman 45 and 450's, and two of the Stars. I have little experience with the RCBS, but it seems quite similar to the Lymans, with perhaps a bit more leverage. The Lyman 45 tends to leak at the top, which is fixed by a new O ring from Lyman.

The Star is a high volume machine, that takes a lot of fiddling around to get things set up right. Once things are set up right, one can do hundreds of bullets per hour.

if you look at an old lyman cat you will see the saeco and rcbs lubers.My take is they are copies of the old lyman.I to have 2 lyman 45s.one I bought new and one I just got like new in the box for $10 with a new in box truline.I have never broke mine I too have the lee tumble lube set up.

I have a Lyman 4500 with the heater, it works fine. I have never used the RCBS.

I have a Lyman 45 and bought a Star in August. I love the Star for it's speed, smoothness, better fill with less mess, and lack of nose deformation that I was seeing on the Lyman.
