Lying in Wait with "Mr. Shotgun"

Wow, that guy showed alot of self restraint...

There would be alot of temptation to take a finger or two for each of the pistols that was stolen, that way even if you didn't get them back, you knew the thief wouldnt be able to use them himself.

good job, even if it wasn't 'tactically sound'

Personally,

I think the Homeowner was lucky. Lying in wait and then going HTH with a long rifle? Yeegs... There were a couple of things there that had me a little worried, he didn't know if the BG was alone, and he didn't know if the BG was armed.

Once someone has broken into your home, essentially they're yours. At least the homeowner was smart enough to wait until he was in the house.

Doesn't seem real clever. Don't close with the fellow unless you have too.

However, if there was no choice, I don't think I'd use a shotgun. You Tap the first fellow across the side of the nut with the barrel of the gun and bend or damage it, and he has friends?

If necessary to close with some-one, try to be carrying an old ex-mil rifle, they're designed for that sort of use. You really think that big heavy nosecap on the front of a No1 Mk3 SMLE is solely there to fix a bayonet too? :what:

Homeowner was lucky but gets bonus points for also being determined.

right mindset - wrong engagement range.

Sometimes God watches out for fools. Going hand to hand while attempting to keep control of a long gun isn't my idea of good tactics. There is a whole lot that can go wrong very quickly.

It worked for this guy, but I wouldn't say it's a good tactic. I'd say it was luck.

Jeff

I find it very ironic that a member of the same group of people this man feels he can't rely on is telling us how foolish this man is in for choosing the way of defending his home because he can't rely on them to begin with.

Pretty ballsy move wrestling with a guy in the dark with a shotgun in one arm... if that's what happened...
But other then that, good job.

Keep in mind Mr. Homeowner is more familiar with longarms than most....having spent quite a bit of time in the Service of this Great Country's Armed Forces. You don't become a JROTC instructor after a mere 4 year stint in the Army...
Personally, I would have waited beside the door, let him break in and then level the shotgun on him and tell him to "twitch....please".
It's time American men start standing up for themselves and their families. The press and laws have managed to emasculate so many men in America that the second one dares to standing against criminals or PC BS, he gets shot down.
I say BRAVO Mr. Homeowner!

Bad tactics are bad tactics. Doesn't matter who points it out.

And so is judging someone's tactics before you know anything about them. Was it luck that this guy pulled this off or was it because he was an ex-Delta?

You don't know.

What state was this in?
In Texas I believe you can pop the guy for just being in or around your home after dark w/o permission. (PC 96) And if you have reason to believe that the perp is up to no good then even more so!

Yall need to rush to judgment less or at least preface your rippage of people and their choices with "in my state / local serfdom" or some such.

To me it sounds like this guy clanks when he walks due to big steel ones!

Good guys +1 Bad Guys -1

You don't know.

And you know what, I don't give a rip if the guy served in the unit the Army won't officially acknowledge. Poor tactics are poor tactics no matter who uses them.

Sometimes luck plays a very important role in defensive situations. We don't always admit it, but you can do everything right and still be injured or killed. And on the other side of the coin, you can make a totally boneheaded move and get by with it.

I'd have no problem telling our hero to his face that it was a messed up tactic and he got by with it due to luck. And if he truly was a professional he'd agree.

I strongly Agree! That is something that drives me crazy, even on gun forums.

Stay on topic...

Kentucky,
This is the Strategies and Tactics Forum...not the Legal and Political Forum. Here we discuss the nuts and bolts details of an issue. Political comments, no matter what side they come down on are not on topic here.
