Does anyone out there own a Lyman 1200 DPS electronic scale?

I bought mine in early 2004 for around $300, and I'm pretty happy with it. The only thing I don't like about it is when you're done loading and you want to take the left-over gun powder out, it's a hassle, even though the powder compartment has a ramp you can open to drain the powder out. It still leaves powder in the compartment and you still have to take it out and clean it. The first time I did it, I ended up spilling some powder granules on the carpet, so now I have to unplug the scale and take out the powder from the compartment over a plastic container to prevent powder from spilling.

Yes, I've got one. Similar complaint. The automatic dispenser is such a major improvement over hand weighing that I just deal with it and over look it. I'm not sure what you mean by taking it out and cleaning it though. I just use the brush that was included to brush out all of the remaining grains to get them to go down the ramp.

Strongbad, what I meant was, and I'm sure you know this, the entire powder container comes out by simply pushing it in. It's spring loaded so when you push it, it comes out, providing of course you take out the dispenser pipe. I do use the brush just to clean the top and under the scale, but I feel more comfortable if the entire powder container were completely out so I can easily clean out the remaining powder granules that tend to stick on the inside to ensure no powder grains remain inside it. Because of static, some of the ball powders that I use, like Win 296, tends to leave small granules stuck on the inside.

I understand now Mike. Sorry that one slipped by me before. I actually don't take mine down that far, but I also haven't been running a bunch of small grained powders through it either. I everything that I've been using in it so far is large grain extruded stuff.

I have one and have some of the same comment about getting all of the powder out when finished or changing powders. My main complaint is the one-half hour it takes to get it on-line so you can use it. Otherwise it is a great system.

Stronghold - I take the compartment out when I use stick powders too, I guess I'm a stickler when it comes to things like that, even though some people think it's not necessary.

Yankee Rebel - Most of the times, I just leave mine on so that it won't have to go through the "Warm-up" cycle. But if I'm in a hurry, I can press one of the buttons on the panel to skip the warm-up cycle.

Yep! I have one, and the same problem. Aside from that, I love it! Easy to use, and a real time saver.

I minimize the frequency by standardizing on two easily distinguishable (from each other!) powders, #4895 for rifle and #231 for pistol, and loading lots before having to switch. :scrutiny:
