Thinking of buying the M&P 15 or a Bushmaster M4 type carbine. I don't currently own any rifles or shotguns, but would like a .223 type of rifle. I like the M&P, but it is on the pricey side. I would buy it for shooting targets, but I would also use it in case we get invaded by aliens, freaks, crack-heads and the like.:what: :what: What do you folks think? If there is a thread on this issue you can provide me with the link and I would be grateful! Danke.

The S&W ARs are rebadged Stag ARs, I believe. Basically, you're paying a premium for the S and the W. I don't think that they offer much of anything that other makers don't do, for less.

The Smiths seem to have a lot of features for the price, but I have a DPMS built to about the same specifications and I got that for quite a bit less than a similar M&P. I can't imagine how the Smith could be worth several hundred $ more than I paid for the DPMS. DPMS is a great company with a great product at a great price. I don't intend to buy an AR from anyone else.

Not completely.

Yes, most of the parts are made by CMT (the parent company of Stag Arms), but they don't make the plastic parts or even use the same barrels...

That said, I'd prefer the S&W over the Bushmaster, but I'd prefer the Stag over the S&W.

I would own Stag over either of those two and it is less expensive.

In fact I do own a Stag.

I've still got my Stag Christmas sale going on. $800 for a complete Stag 16" flattop with the ARMS #40 flip up rear sight.

Stag is my favorite brand of AR.

They are awesome... and what's funny is that many people have no idea how good of a value the Stag's are.

They are the best kept secret among AR's....

I bought a Bushmaster XM-15 today for $700. It looks almost new. I figured the .223 ammo was cheap to shoot especially since I plan on doing my own loads.

Okay, here is a good question folks. What is the twist of my barrel; 1-12, 1-7, or 1-9. The only reason I am asking is because I am looking at some of the load data on Accurate Arms website. I know I have the XM-15 E2S, but I have no idea how to tell the barrel twist. Is it that important? Thanks, and I will gladly hit myself in the head if this was a dumb question.:banghead:

Bushmaster and the reason i say that is because after all the ones i have experience with i have no reason to look at ever buying any other. my dad has owned 3 and i have owned 2 and have one now. i have never had any issues out of mine or the ones my dad has ownd over the years. i think they are great firearms. the s&w's might be fine weapons as well but i wouldn't even buy one now knowing what i do about the bushmasters and having the experience i do with them, if i was to go with the s&w it would be a case of me going backwards instead of fowards, i already have a solid foundation with the bushmaster.

I recently had a chance to check out a S&W M&P. It's a tad pricey for what it is. My RRA middy w/ EOTECH was less & performance is (at worst) comparable.

Glad to hear that they have been reliable for you and your father. I think I will be happy with my purchase.
i know you might wonder why we have owned so many different ones if we love them so much and that is often a question that i have to answer well here goes.

a man needed to pay some doctor bills so he sold my dad 3 bushmaster ar-15's 2 were post bans and had the look like a collapsible stock but wasn't, and had the a2 recievers, and the other was a a bushmaster target model. we shot them all alot and loved them, but we wanted m4a3 types so we sold the three of them and was able to get one for each of us am4a3 type and had them fixed up the way we wanted them, all tactialed out and such. and we had plenty of money left over for ammo.

btw he paid $2000 for all three of the bushmasters. so to say the least we definetly came out ahead. :)
