Looking at this pistol for a training tool. I carry a Glock 22 at work and a S&W Shield 9mm off-duty. Do the mags fall free? How is the trigger reset? I would be selling my Ruger 22/45 to fund this purchase.

Why does no one seem to consider a .22 conversion unit for a Glock? Is it that they have issues that I am unaware of .... I have never owned one I am just asking but it would seem that if training with a .22 is the idea that this would be the way to go. I do like a 1911 and have a .22 conversion unit for it and that has really been a great idea. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Probably because most .22 conversion units I've seen seem to cost as much as (or more than) an M&P 22 or a Ruger SR22. Seems to be the case for the Sig, Glock and CZ conversion kits I've seen.

For the same money, I'd rather just have the separate entire gun even though the grip, feel and function may be a little different.

I have thought about a conversion. They are expensive and there are a lot of negative reports about reliability.

The kimber conversion I have, no issues to report. However, it's not the cheapest thing in the world...

I have one and functions flawlessly with various brands of ammo. I sold a Ruger 22/45 after I bought this

Any of the ruger pistols after the mark 2 are picky about ammo. Shot the new green 22/45 lute yesterday and if it wasn't mini mags, it would jam.

I have an M&P 22 Compact. I really like it. Yes the magazines drop freely.

I have only shot mine a couple times and it was 100 percent reliable from the first shot with a variety of ammo including CCI Mini Mag, Federal American Eagle HP, Federal Champion bulk pack 550, and Remington Golden bulk pack. Others have reported similar reliability. I wear XL gloves and it is a little cramped in the hand working the trigger but no big deal and I experience the same with my Gen 2 Glock 19 and Walther PPS. It is very similar in size the the Shield with the 8 round magazine and a little bit longer. A very well made in USA pistol and slide is made of aluminum. Accuracy not quite as good as my Ruger Mark1 but plenty accurate for me and a terrificly fun plinker that I bought primarily for my Wife and Daughter to get into shooting. Trigger quality was nice right out of the box. Very easy to field strip also.

The reviews below may be of interest.

Thanks Sigarms, that is exactly the input I was looking for. I really do like my Ruger 22/45, but have all but stopped shooting it due to it not having a drop free magazine release and lack of a real slide to rack. The last thing I need is getting that goofy platform locked in my "muscle memory" and having it mess with shooting my carry gun when I need it.

If it even shoots Remington ammo OK, that about says it for reliability.

Sounds like you need to scour the Internet before dropping that gun. With a slingshot mod and a mag disconnect removal, it'll be as good as any mark 1/2/3 minus the fact you can get those in all stainless. The mag disconnect is what's stopping your mag from falling freely. Get that done to it and the reevaluate the gun. Wanna go yard? Get the volquartsen sear and fully adjustable trigger for it. 20-25 ounce trigger pull and no pretravel or overtravel.

Kinda like the ruger sr22. I was amazed how accurate some 22 handguns can be. The volquartsen tricked out mark 2 I shot yesterday ran circles around mine.

Interesting mods, would make the 22/45 closer to Glock operation. I've shot the sr22, fun gun, but the safety was backwards if I remember right.

It was. The main reason I got rid of it. And the mods would make it closer to a 1911 than glock. As a matter of fact, my 1911s would have to work hard to get to my Ruger mark 2 standards.

Love my M&P compact .22, gave the full size to a friend but he could not pry the little Smith from my hands. My buddy has one and when I am in Texas I use it suppressed and have killed numerous wild hogs with it.
